Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Power Systems Engineer with a strong background in electric utilities and power grid analysis. This position will analyze the utility electrical grid to support the planning and coordination of electrical system outages and help ensure safe and reliable grid operations.

The engineer will use power system tools such as EMS, PSS®E (PSSE), TARA, and/or CYME to perform system studies, identify potential reliability concerns, and support outage and shutdown planning. A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with EMS and/or PSS®E (PSSE) / TARA in an electric utility or power systems environment is required.

What You'll Do
  • Perform power system analysis using EMS, PSS®E, TARA, and/or CYME.
  • Analyze planned electrical outages and shutdowns to identify potential system or reliability issues.
  • Perform or support power flow, contingency, State Estimator, and N-1 analysis.
  • Use real-time system measurements to help identify and recommend improvements to EMS system models.
  • Work with engineers, project schedulers, field teams, technicians, and other groups to coordinate planned outages.
  • Participate in and help lead outage planning, shutdown review, and cross-functional meetings.
  • Help resolve scheduling conflicts involving multiple or complex system outages.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of relevant electric utility or power systems experience.
  • Hands-on experience with EMS OR PSS®E/TARA is required.
  • Experience performing power system studies, grid analysis, power flow, contingency analysis, and/or outage studies.
  • Experience or strong familiarity with State Estimator (SE), Contingency Analysis (CA), and N-1 conditions.
  • Experience working with electric utility transmission and/or distribution systems.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with engineering, operations, scheduling, and field teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US - Employment sponsorship is not available for this position now or in the future.
