What is a freelance POS system sales professional?

A Freelance POS (Point of Sale) System Sales professional is an independent salesperson who specializes in promoting and selling POS solutions to businesses such as restaurants, retail stores, and service providers. Unlike salaried employees, freelancers work on a contract or commission basis and often represent multiple POS brands or systems. Their responsibilities include identifying potential clients, demonstrating product features, negotiating deals, and providing after-sales support. This role requires strong sales skills, technical knowledge of POS systems, and the ability to manage relationships independently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance POS system sales professional?

To thrive as a Freelance POS System Sales professional, you need a solid understanding of POS technology, sales strategies, and ideally experience in retail or hospitality sales. Familiarity with major POS platforms, CRM tools, and digital marketing techniques is often required, along with any relevant sales certifications. Excellent communication, negotiation, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for building client relationships and closing deals independently. These skills and qualities are essential for effectively identifying new business opportunities, understanding client needs, and succeeding in a competitive, commission-driven environment.

What are some common challenges freelance POS system sales professionals face when building their client base?

Freelance POS system sales professionals often encounter challenges such as establishing credibility without the backing of a large company, identifying quality leads, and differentiating their offerings in a competitive market. Additionally, building trust with potential clients requires persistence and excellent communication skills, as businesses may be hesitant to switch from existing systems. Networking, leveraging referrals, and staying up-to-date on industry trends are key strategies to overcome these obstacles and grow a successful client base.

A story about innovations and traditions…about inspiring stores and irresistible products…about the excitement of the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, and the wonder of the Thanksgiving Day Parade. We’ve been part of memorable moments and milestones for countless customers and colleagues. Those stories are part of what makes this such a special place to work.

  • Provide guidance to Product and Tech teams on critical business priorities, POS requirements, and dependencies on supporting applications.
  • Conduct collaborative testing of new features and processes across diverse stakeholder groups, strategically prioritizing feedback on scalability and opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with Product, Project, and Program leaders to identify and mitigate risks impacting overall program priorities.
  • Work alongside Human Resources, Marketing, Selling Strategy, Talent/Org Effectiveness, Central Ops/AP, Colleague Experience, Workforce Strategy, and Corporate Communications to develop targeted communications for store-focused initiatives.
  • Independently configure POS software settings to align with strategic objectives of key business partners.
  • Collaborate with store leadership, Product, and Tech teams to diagnose and resolve technical issues affecting POS systems.
  • Deliver training and technical support to POS end-users, addressing questions and concerns related to the POS system.
  • Stay informed about emerging POS systems and technologies in the market to maintain current knowledge and make informed recommendations.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of company policies, governmental regulations, processes, and best practices.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Ensure regular and punctual attendance.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
