Job description

Job Summary:

Responsible for ensuring the success of live events by performing the technical aspects related to live event audio. The FOH Engineer is responsible for managing all sound equipment and sound engineering of the show; Oversees the set-up and maintenance of all the sound equipment to ensure sound is of the highest quality; Assist in all aspects of audio production as well as assisting in other various aspects of event production when needed.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: These functions are intended as a general illustration of the work performed in this job classification and are not all inclusive for this position

  • Operate audio control board.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all RF and audio equipment as well as computers and backups required for these systems.
  • Check, clean, repair, test, and set up wireless microphones and related systems.
  • Mix show sound.
  • Learn and perform multiple cue tracks.
  • Test all "SMPTE" time code interaction with video and lighting.
  • Complete daily pre-show line checks and testing of all RF units.
  • Perform daily set up, tear down, boot up and boot down of all sound related equipment.
  • Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance as required. Including all cables, patches and equipment.
  • Maintain DB levels required for the show space.
  • Attend all scheduled sound checks, during which, the A2 will talk to the performers to determine exactly what type of sound they desire.
  • Work with other venue sound personnel as needed, such as lobby sound needs.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly working environment at all times.
  • Communicate updates and issues to applicable stakeholders.
  • Serve as primary troubleshooting and venue contact for audio including updating hardware, software, and equipment firmware and loading and programming content for events.
  • Assist in emergency procedures.
  • Mix monitors, when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED. Extensive related work experience may be considered in lieu of educational requirement.
  • At least five (5) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified for a live music venue, including live mix, sound reinforcement, AV broadcast and/or music production.
  • Possess a musical background, experience in multi-track audio recording and/or professional audio systems.
  • Possess working familiarity with the Midas Heritage D audio desk.
  • Experience operating a medium sized sound reinforcement system.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite applications, Digital console controls, Avid Pro Tools (or similar music software), and Waves Tracks Live (or similar multitrack recording software).

This job is active in nature. Must be able to stand for long periods while performing various duties. Moderate to heavy lifting (25 - 100 pounds) required.

Specific hearing and vision abilities required by this job; Work in an environment with moderate to loud noise level, extreme lighting changes, strobes & moving lights; Able to wear a radio earpiece during the scheduled shift.
