Unlike full-time staff, they work on a contract or per-gig basis, often moving between different venues, tours, or festivals. Their main responsibility is to ensure that each performer receives a clear and personalized mix, enabling optimal performances. This role requires strong technical skills, adaptability, and good communication with artists and other crew members. Freelance monitor engineers often need to supply their own equipment and keep up-to-date with the latest audio technology.
