Freelance magazine photographers arrange and manage on-location photo shoots on a topic requested by a publication. In this role, you capture an inspiring or illustrative image using digital or standard photography equipment; once you have taken all the photos you need, you utilize photo editing programs to adjust coloring, crop the original image, or manipulate the picture to create a particular effect. Some publications hire freelance photographers on a short-term or long-term basis to take photographs of various subjects relating to their magazine. Depending on your client, you may also help determine which photos are best for your client's needs.
