What is freelance line art?

Freelance line art refers to creating artwork that primarily uses lines to define forms, shapes, and details, often without extensive shading or coloring. Freelance line artists typically work independently, offering their services to clients who need illustrations for books, comics, logos, tattoos, or digital content. These artists are hired on a project-by-project basis and may work with clients remotely or in person. The flexibility of freelance work allows artists to manage their own schedules and pursue a variety of creative projects.

Reporting to the Creative Director, this role combines advanced design expertise, strategic thinking, and brand stewardship to create impactful experiences across digital, print, social, motion, and experiential channels. The Senior Brand Designer is expected to operate as a highly independent individual contributor who owns projects from concept through execution, maintains and evolves brand systems, and provides creative guidance to internal stakeholders and external creative partners. This role embraces AI as a core creative tool using AI-powered design, ideation, and production workflows to accelerate creative exploration, drive innovation, and elevate the impact of our creative output.

What You’ll Do

Drive Strategic Creative Thinking
  • Analyze briefs, target audiences, campaign objectives, and business goals to shape creative direction and inform design decisions.

  • Present design concepts and recommendations that clearly connect creative decisions to business outcomes.

  • Serve as a trusted creative advisor by proactively identifying opportunities to strengthen brand communications, visual storytelling, and campaign impact.

  • Partner with marketing, communications, content, and cross-functional stakeholders to develop integrated creative solutions.

  • Use AI tools to accelerate concept development, generate variations, and refine creative directions before advancing to full production.

Own & Evolve the Brand System
  • Serve as a steward of the TimelyCare brand, ensuring consistency and quality across all channels and touchpoints.

  • Maintain, organize, and evolve brand assets, templates, component libraries, and design systems within Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and AI-integrated design platforms.

  • Develop scalable creative resources including AI-ready templates and automation-enabled production workflows that improve efficiency, consistency, and collaboration across teams.

  • Document and communicate brand standards, design guidelines, and best practices for internal and external partners, including guidance on appropriate use of AI tools within brand parameters.

  • Conduct regular audits of brand assets and design systems to identify opportunities for improvement and scalability.

  • Translate the brand system into supporting campaigns that complement and continue to build brand equity.

Lead Campaign Design & Execution

  • Translate strategic briefs into compelling creative solutions across digital, print, social, advertising, email, web, video, presentations, sales enablement, and events to reinforce and evolve the brand with every touchpoint.

  • Apply advanced design principles, such as typography, hierarchy, composition, accessibility, color theory, and visual storytelling to every deliverable.

  • Leverage AI-powered design tools to accelerate ideation, asset generation, and layout exploration while applying professional judgment to refine and elevate final output.

  • Produce production-ready files and assets that meet brand, compliance, accessibility, and technical requirements.

  • Manage projects from intake through final delivery with minimal oversight, maintaining quality standards and meeting deadlines.

Provide Creative Direction & Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with the Creative Director and broader Marketing team to deliver cohesive campaigns.

  • Provide art direction, feedback, and quality control for freelance designers, agencies, photographers, illustrators, and other external creative partners.

  • Review external creative work to ensure alignment with brand standards, project objectives, and production requirements before final approval.

  • Support a culture of creative excellence through collaboration, accountability, continuous learning, and constructive feedback.

Advance Creative Operations & Innovation
  • Actively adopt and champion AI-powered tools and workflows for design, production, and asset management, helping the team build fluency and confidence with new capabilities.

  • Stay current on design trends, emerging technologies, AI-enabled creative tools, and industry best practices.

  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, design processes, asset management, and team efficiency.

  • Explore new formats, motion graphics, interactive experiences, and creative approaches that enhance storytelling and audience engagement.

  • Take on additional projects and responsibilities as needed to support evolving team and organizational priorities.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • At least 8 years of progressive brand design experience in a marketing, brand, creative, or agency environment both leading and building creative marketing solutions.

  • Experience providing creative direction and feedback to external creative partners, freelancers, or agencies

  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects independently from concept development through final execution.

  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.

  • Strong working proficiency in Figma, including component libraries, design systems, templates, and collaborative workflows.

  • Hands-on experience using AI-powered creative tools (e.g., Adobe Firefly, Canva AI, Claude connectors) to support ideation, asset generation, or production workflows.

  • Deep understanding of typography, layout systems, accessibility standards, visual hierarchy, and brand development.

  • Experience developing and maintaining scalable design systems and creative asset libraries.

  • Strong project management, organization, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • A growth mindset and genuine curiosity about emerging technologies, and how they can elevate creative work, not replace it.

  • Portfolio demonstrating strategic thinking, design excellence, brand stewardship, and multi-channel campaign execution.

Who You Are

  • A strategic creative thinker who understands how design influences audience behavior and business outcomes.

  • A proactive self-starter who takes ownership of projects and identifies solutions independently.
