Automation Engineer
Location: Pennington, New Jersey
Schedule: Full-Time – Onsite – 5 days per week
Employment Type: Contract/Freelance with potential to transition into a long-term permanent position
Start: ASAP
About the Opportunity
Our client, a leading biotechnology manufacturing organization, is looking for an experienced Automation Engineer to support automation systems across a GMP-regulated manufacturing site.
The role will work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality and IT, supporting the maintenance, troubleshooting, validation and improvement of site automation systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and maintain site automation systems including SCADA, PLCs and HMIs
- Troubleshoot automation and control-system issues and support root cause investigations
- Support Wonderware/AVEVA System Platform and ArchestrA
- Support Allen-Bradley/ControlLogix PLCs
- Develop and execute validation protocols, test scripts and lifecycle documentation
- Support system upgrades, configuration changes and new equipment implementation
- Manage automation changes through established change-control processes
- Support deviations, CAPAs and system investigations
- Maintain automation SOPs, system documentation, backups and user access
- Ensure systems remain compliant with GMP, 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP 5 and Annex 11
- Work closely with internal teams and external vendors on automation projects and system improvements
Required Experience
- 5+ years' Automation Engineering experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology or life sciences manufacturing
- Strong PLC, SCADA and HMI experience
- Hands-on Wonderware/AVEVA System Platform and ArchestrA troubleshooting experience
- Strong Allen-Bradley/ControlLogix experience
- Direct experience working with 21 CFR Part 11
- Experience within a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment
- Experience with CSV, equipment qualification and validation documentation
- Experience troubleshooting and supporting automation systems in a live production environment
