Job Title: Senior Functional Safety Engineer

Location: Remote

About the job you're considering:

We are seeking a Senior Functional Safety Engineer to ensure the safety, reliability, and compliance of our autonomous robotic vehicles. This role is responsible for identifying hazards and risks using Systems-Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA), defining safety requirements, and implementing safety measures across the entire product development lifecycle.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to embed safety into design, development, verification, and validation processes, ensuring adherence to relevant safety standards and regulatory frameworks.

Your Role:

  • Lead functional safety activities across the product lifecycle, from concept through production and post-deployment.
  • Conduct hazard analysis and risk assessments using methodologies such as STPA, FMEA, and FTA.
  • Define and manage functional safety requirements, ensuring traceability and compliance.
  • Support development of safety concepts, architectures, and safety cases.
  • Collaborate with systems, software, and hardware teams to integrate safety into designs.
  • Drive implementation and verification of risk mitigation measures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262, IEC 61508, or relevant domain-specific standards).
  • Prepare and present safety analyses, reports, and documentation for leadership, customers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Lead safety reviews, audits, and cross-functional discussions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and influence stakeholders on safety best practices.

Your skills and experience

  • 8-12 years of experience in functional safety engineering
  • Experience in one or more domains:
    • Autonomous systems / robotics
    • Automotive
    • Mining / heavy equipment
    • Agricultural machinery
  • Hands-on experience with STPA is highly preferred
  • CFSE / CFSP / AFSP / Functional Safety Engineer certification or equivalent Preferred
  • Strong knowledge of functional safety standards and lifecycle processes
  • Expertise in risk assessment techniques (STPA, FMEA, FTA)
  • Understanding of Safety Integrity Levels (SIL/ASIL)

The base compensation range for this role in the posted location is: $82,082 - $164,164/Year

Capgemini provides compensation range information in accordance with applicable national, state, provincial, and local pay transparency laws. The base compensation range listed for this position reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation Capgemini, in good faith, believes it may pay for the role at the time of this posting. This range may be subject to change as permitted by law.

The actual compensation offered to any candidate may fall outside of the posted range and will be determined based on multiple factors legally permitted in the applicable jurisdiction.

These may include, but are not limited to: Geographic location, Education and qualifications, Certifications and licenses, Relevant experience and skills, Seniority and performance, Market and business consideration, Internal pay equity.

It is not typical for candidates to be hired at or near the top of the posted compensation range.

In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional compensation such as variable incentives, bonuses, or commissions, depending on the position and applicable laws.
