Job description

Job: Construction Engineer

Location: York, PA

We are currently seeking a Construction Engineer to join our Wagman Heavy Civil team.The Construction Engineer supports construction operations. This role focuses on construction-related engineering, including bridge and heavy highway work, concrete, and transportation. The Engineer will collaborate closely with project teams and field leadership to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant execution of work across multiple projects.

Wagman is a fourth generation, family-owned company with offices in Pennsylvania and Virginia and is headquartered in York, PA. Founded in 1902, Wagman is a nationally recognized leader in the industry. We are multi-faceted construction firm with major operations in heavy civil, general construction and geotechnical construction services. Core competencies include design-build, infrastructure, marine construction, modified concrete, grooving and grinding, and geotechnical construction services.

This is a safety sensitive position requiring work on construction sites with various safety hazards inherent in heavy construction.

This position is subject to drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a Federal Contractor.

Skills and Qualifications:

Professional Engineer (PE) license in PA, VA, MD, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire

Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and heavy civil construction methods

Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MS Office, and industry standard structural analysis software (STAAD Pro, RISA, or similar)

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and construction documents

Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with attention to detail

Effective critical thinking and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment

Education and Experience:

Required: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or similar

5+ years of experience in bridge and heavy highway design or construction, with a focus on structures

Experience in heavy civil construction environments, supporting field operations and project execution

Exposure to temporary works design (erection, demolition, falsework, formwork, etc.)

Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously

Essential Functions:

Review and interpret contract plans, shop drawings and specifications for temporary works and constructability planning and implementation on active projects.

Perform civil and structural engineering evaluations for heavy highway and bridge construction, including bridge erection and demolition, and falsework and formwork design

Develop engineering calculations, working drawings, and submittal packages

Collaborate internally with project teams, field supervision, and operations leadership to ensure designs are practical and effectively executed in the field

Coordinate and manage engineering submittal schedules to support multiple active projects

Assist estimating teams during preconstruction by reviewing bid documents and contributing to means and methods development.

Identify and help resolve engineering challenges, providing timely and practical solutions

Physical Requirements

Able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods (up to 7 hours).

Able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. occasionally

Able to occasionally bend, squat, kneel, and climb (i.e., ladders) throughout the workday.

Must be able to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation tasks with both hands.

Must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, etc.).

Ability to travel to project sites and work at heights above 6 feet as necessary.

Must have acceptable corrected vision and hearing.
