Responsibilities:

The primary duties of the  Risk Assessor focus on project work that involves performing site-specific risk assessment and Remedial Investigations (RI) for Superfund and other environmental regulatory programs. Successful candidates will have experience in risk assessment, hazardous waste site investigation, RI report writing, the use of Excel spreadsheets and risk-related models.


Responsibilities to include some or all of the following, depending on candidate's experience:
Preparing site-specific risk assessments
Preparing RI reports and other Superfund and state environmental program technical deliverables
Develop conceptual site models for risk assessment and RI reports
Assist in developing in-house risk assessment tools and processes
Perform technical QA/QC review
Support other site investigation projects including environmental site assessments

Support site characterization, fate and transport, environmental chemistry to support risk-based decisions, developing site-specific remedial action objectives and cleanup goals
Perform literature research, review site documentation
Assist in managing and interpreting analytical/chemical laboratory data for risk assessment and RI
Evaluate water, soil and sediment contamination concerns for risk assessment and RI
Evaluate potential hazards to wildlife using ecological food chain modeling
Work cooperatively with risk assessors and other staff in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

        Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or closely related field

        Knowledge of Superfund, DOD, NJDEP and NYSDEC environmental regulations and guidance, ARARS and TBCs highly desirable.

        Current 40 hour HAZWOPER training or ability to acquire certification required.

        Local candidates are preferred

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or closely related field
  • 5 years technical and/or field experience preparing environmental documents
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel)
  • Strong environmental writing and communication skills
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving and research abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
