Job Summary:
First Tek, Inc. is seeking a specialized Technical Writer to join a major Aerospace company's Mission Systems team. The successful candidate will develop technical manual content for advanced Ground/Air Task-Oriented Radar military systems, ensuring clear communication of technical information to military end-users.
Responsibilities:
โ€ข Writes, rewrites, develops technical manual content such as Operating Procedures, Maintenance procedures, Troubleshooting procedures, Preventive Maintenance, to communicate clearly and effectively technical information and instructions to the military end-user.
โ€ข Oversee development of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts.
โ€ข Conduct quality review of materials.
โ€ข Author and publish materials in electronic (basic and interactive), structured (HTML, XML, and SGML).
โ€ข Collaborate with task leads, writers, engineers, and instructors, to develop and deliver technical manuals to varying levels of details.
โ€ข Research and compile information from program documents, engineering sources, et al. to develop manual outlines and adhere to military specifications and standards of technical writing.
โ€ข Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
โ€ข Bachelor's Degree in STEM discipline or related field
โ€ข Or Military operations and maintenance experience with radar, communications, electro-optics, networks and information technology-based sensors/systems
โ€ข Or proven mechanical aptitude demonstrated by job experience required for grasping the maintenance part of the technical manuals
โ€ข Ability to comprehend military specifications (experience with MIL-STD-40051 a plus)
โ€ข Proficiency with MS Office Products
โ€ข Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat
โ€ข Experience tagging XML documents
โ€ข Minimum of 2 years' technical writing experience with structured authoring applications, such as Arbortext, and/or IADS viewer or other XML authoring software tools
โ€ข Experience using Confluence/JIRA
โ€ข Proven ability to manage several tasks simultaneously
โ€ข Excellent attention to detail and good organizational skills
โ€ข Possess and maintain Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance
โ€ข Self-starter and engaged team member
Preferred:
โ€ข Minimum of 5 years' technical writing experience with structured authoring applications, such as Arbortext, and/or IADS viewer, or other XML authoring software tools
โ€ข Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100)
โ€ข Expert knowledge of standards โ€“ XML, SGML, HTML, S1000D and DITA for structured Content
