Overview

Position Summary

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Learning and Development, the Sr. Manager of Golf Instruction provides operational and programmatic leadership for the Instruction category across all stores, which is a key component of our critical relationship building. This purview includes STUDIO Instruction programming, instructor learning and development, category reporting and KPOs, and the exploration and adoption of instruction technology. This role is accountable for building the reporting and performance framework that measures Instruction across the enterprise, developing instructor capability at every level, and delivering a consistent, best-in-class lesson experience. The role carries revenue accountability for the Instruction category and drives lifetime value of lesson clientele. The Sr. Manager monitors the competition and partners with our OEMs and instruction technology providers to ensure our teaching processes, technology, and systems are best-in-class and aligned with trends in the Golf industry. They will partner closely with the Sr. Director, Services Operations, Field Leadership, Golf Services Field Managers, the Sr. Director of Training and Development, and cross-functional SSC teams to translate strategy into execution, establish performance standards, and drive sustained behavioral change across the organization. This role plays a critical leadership position in advancing Instruction as a key growth engine and competitive differentiator for the business.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support and govern the operational execution, and performance of the Instruction category across the enterprise, including lesson programs, packages, and pricing recommendations.

  • Partner to develop revenue plan, including annual and monthly forecasting, lesson pricing and package mix, instructor productivity targets, and performance against plan by store, market, and enterprise.

  • Serve as the enterprise subject matter expert and change leader for Instruction.

  • Establish and reinforce clear expectations for teaching behaviors, performance standards, and operational execution through partnership with Field Leaders, Golf Services Field Managers, and General Managers.

  • Partner to develop KPO framework - lesson bookings, availability, utilization, conversion, student retention, revenue per instructor, and student progression - setting targets at the associate, store, market, and enterprise levels.

  • Leverage reporting and analytics to evaluate performance at the instructor, store, market, and enterprise levels, driving accountability and continuous improvement in areas related to booking availability and utilization.

  • Lead performance discussions with Field Leaders, Golf Services Field Managers, and General Managers, using data and insights to support coaching, development, recognition, and corrective action.

  • Support content strategy for the Instruction learning and development curriculum, partnering with the Sr. Director of Learning and Development to build onboarding, certification, and continuing education paths for Instructors.

  • Establish and maintenance the teaching standards, certification levels, and progression criteria that define what great instruction looks like at PGA TOUR Superstore.

  • Develop and deliver instructor training on teaching methodology, technology use, lesson plan design, and customer experience, reinforced through field coaching standards.

  • Facilitate instruction training as needed, leading in-person and virtual sessions for Instructors, Golf Services Field Managers, and store teams, including new-hire onboarding, certification workshops, technology rollouts, and regional or enterprise training events.

  • Drive performance management and talent development across the Instruction category, using data to inform coaching, succession planning, retention strategies, and recognition.

  • Lead the exploration, evaluation, and piloting of instruction technology - launch monitors, swing capture, simulation, lesson management, and student progress platforms - and support the business case for enterprise adoption.

  • Partner with OEMs, technology vendors, and IT to test emerging tools, define requirements, and manage the transition from pilot to enterprise rollout.

  • Ensure consistent, expert-level use of instruction technology in every STUDIO, measuring adoption and closing capability gaps through training and coaching.

  • Develop Clinics, Seminars, Leagues, and junior programs, evaluating effectiveness and scaling best practices.

  • Partner with Marketing to build and execute the Instruction marketing strategy, aligning messaging, promotions, and campaigns to drive awareness, demand, and lesson utilization.

  • Manage execution of clienteling scope for Instruction, setting standards for how Instructors identify, engage, and follow up with lesson clients - post-lesson outreach, package renewals, and progression check-ins - to grow repeat business.

  • Must be flexible, willing to undertake a wide variety of challenging tasks, and special projects as needed.


Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Management Experience: 5 years of managerial experience or equivalent industry expertise.

  • Communication: Candidates must have strong listening and interpersonal skills. They must possess good verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate cross-functionally.

  • Computer: Candidates must possess advanced computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, and business intelligence or reporting tools.

  • Accountability: Candidates must possess the skills to manage conflict, lead conflict resolutions & hold others accountable.

  • Business Acumen: Strong business acumen with accountability for the Instruction category revenue plan, lesson pricing, and category budget.

  • Instruction Expertise: PGA of America membership or an equivalent teaching credential is preferred, with demonstrated experience coaching golfers of all skill levels and using launch monitor and swing capture technology.

  • Reporting and Analytics: Candidates must be able to build, interpret, and act on category reporting and KPO scorecards, translating data into coaching and business decisions.

  • Organization: Candidates must be able to organize multiple priorities to ensure that resources are properly allocated to meet objectives.

  • Leadership: Candidates must be able to lead by example and, through daily actions, enforce a high standard of Customer service. Candidates must have a customer first mindset to be successful in this role.


Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Monday - Friday onsite, based out of our Roswell, GA Store Support Center. Flexibility to work extended and varied hours as needed, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time as the job is completed primarily at a desk each day. Variable desk heights are offered so alternatively sitting and/or standing at the desk is optional. Travel: 25% of travel is required.
