Freelance dialogue editors are audio professionals who specialize in editing and enhancing spoken dialogue for film, television, podcasts, and other media projects. They work on a contract basis, often collaborating with sound designers, directors, and post-production teams to ensure that dialogue is clear, clean, and seamlessly integrated with other audio elements. Their tasks include removing unwanted noise, syncing dialogue to picture, and preparing tracks for the final mix. Freelance dialogue editors typically manage their own schedules and clients, offering flexibility but also requiring strong self-management skills.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a freelance dialogue editor?

A Freelance Dialogue Editor needs expertise in audio editing, sound design, and a solid understanding of film or television post-production workflows, often supported by relevant education or experience in audio engineering. Full-time

Job description

Inkitt is building the Operating System for Storytellers, standing at the forefront of technology and entertainment.

Leveraging AI and predictive algorithms, Inkitt discovers unknown stories and turns them into blockbuster hits, producing a new $1M ebook every 7 days and selling directly to consumers through its Inkitt Galatea app. Bestsellers are then translated onto the screen through Inkitt CandyJar, the #1 US-based microdrama platform with billions of episodes streamed to date, and Inkitt Ironblood, the world's first streaming app for superhero, sci-fi and action stories.

Inkitt has become the 11th most bestseller-generating publisher in the world, boasting a 40x higher hit-rate than traditional publishers.

Backed by some of the top VC's such as: Khosla, Kleiner Perkins, and NEA Ventures, our recent expansion into Ironblood, the first AI Native streaming platform for action and adventure, is only the beginning of our journey to becoming the next-gen entertainment powerhouse.

What You'll Do:
IronBlood is a new AI-native streaming app from Inkitt, built exclusively around action, sci-fi, and superhero content - bold, cinematic, and mobile-first. We're building out our freelance creative roster and looking for video editors and designers who can turn raw footage and AI-generated assets into scroll-stopping social ads and content, fast.

This is ongoing work for the right freelancer(s) - we're looking to build a reliable roster, not a one-off gig.

You'll be creating content across formats including:
  • Episodic/longform cutdowns with cliffhanger endings
  • Dialogue trailers (twist reveals, villain POV, power-scaling/versus edits, lore drops, fight-choreo montages)
  • Comment-overlay hook edits
  • Fan-edit style content (thirst traps, theory breakdowns, trend-driven cuts)
  • Streamer/reactor-cam reaction overlays
  • "XL headline" trailers layering in social proof (rankings, trending call-outs, etc.)
What You'll Bring:
  • Proven short-form/vertical video editing experience (TikTok, Reels, Shorts, or similar)
  • Able to turn around finished edits in 1-3 days
  • Comfortable working across multiple content formats and styles within the same week
  • Working knowledge of AI video generation tools (Runway, Kling, Sora, Pika, Luma, etc.) - or a fast learner who's genuinely excited to pick them up
  • Strong sense of hook, pacing, and what makes someone stop scrolling in the first 1-2 seconds
  • Reliable communication and file delivery (Frame.io, Drive, Dropbox, etc.)
Nice To Have:
  • Background in action, anime, gaming, or superhero content/fandoms
  • Motion graphics / VFX / After Effects skills
  • Experience with AI voice, image, or video tools beyond basic prompting
  • Past work on trailer cuts, dialogue edits, or reaction-style content
$40 - $50 an hour
Salary is determined based on the candidate's experience, skills, and alignment with the requirements of the role, as well as internal equity and market benchmarks.
