Job Summary:

The Research Services Clinical Sciences (Open Rank - Intermediate to Senior) Professional provides essential support to the Pathology Shared Resource by coordinating the collection, processing, storage, and management of biospecimens for clinical and translational research. This role ensures the integrity, quality, and traceability of biological samples and associated data while maintaining strict compliance with institutional policies, regulatory standards, and study protocols.

The ideal candidate brings strong experience in clinical research and biospecimen handling within a dynamic academic medical environment. Responsibilities include managing biological tissue and fluid specimens and maintaining accurate, secure clinical research data for ongoing studies.

This position also involves coordinating research staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage for biospecimen collection during patient clinic visits and surgical procedures. The individual will actively monitor EPIC clinic and operating room schedules to identify upcoming procedures involving research participants and support timely specimen collection.

Additional responsibilities include developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) and compliance documentation, and supporting the implementation of policies and guidelines required to achieve and maintain College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation for the Pathology Shared Resource.

Key Responsibilities:

  • (10%) Prepare and manage research staff schedule to cover research specimen collections during patient clinic visits and surgeries.

  • (15%) Data collection and management from medical record systems (EPIC)

  • (40%) Collection and processing of tissue and body fluid samples from clinical procedures.

  • (15%) Collection of research specimens from surgical procedures in the pathology gross room

  • (5%) Development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures and compliance documentation

  • (5%) Physical and digital inventory management

  • (5%) Data entry and management in Clinical Research Management Systems (OnCore)

  • (5%) Tissue analysis and distribution for research projects

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry Professional

  •  Bachelor's degree in any field

    • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Intermediate Professional

  • Bachelor's degree in any field

  • One (1) year of clinical research or related experience

    • An advanced degree (Masters or PhD) may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis if the degree is in a field of study directly related to the work assignment.

Senior Professional

  • Bachelor's degree in any field

  • Two (2) years of clinical research or related experience

    • An advanced degree (Masters or PhD) may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis if the degree is in a field of study directly related to the work assignment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in science or a health-related field

  • Three (3) years of clinical research or related experience

  • Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g., EMR or EHR and data management systems)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of federal regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution

  • Outstanding customer service skills

  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology

  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

  • Entry Professional: $49,899 to $66,865

  • Intermediate Professional: $54,302 to $72,765

  • Senior Professional: $58,705 to $78,665

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
