Job description

Amazon seeks exceptional leaders for a strategic senior management position overseeing our data center operations. This executive role offers significant visibility within the organization and aligns with our mission of becoming the world's most customer-centric company. This leader will direct managers responsible for mission-critical data center infrastructure, manage network systems, server operations, and infrastructure maintenance, and ensure optimal availability and performance across multiple regional facilities.
Requirements include proven leadership in complex data center environments, technical expertise in enterprise-scale operations, and a track record of operational excellence. This senior leadership position is critical to our Data Center Community's success.
The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of both data center IT infrastructure and AWS cloud platforms, with a clear understanding of their integration and interoperability. Experience demonstrating practical applications of these technologies in hybrid environments is highly valued.
If you are passionate about Customer Experience, think and act globally and want to contribute to the operational excellence of Amazon.com data centers. This may be the challenge you've been looking for!
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain - and we're looking for talented people who want to help.
You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team of Data Center Managers (3-9 areas and front-line managers) and 100-150 hourly associates within Regional Data Centers.
- Attainment of organizational performance goals and objectives relating to safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency in support of our data center operations.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.
- Accountability for meeting and exceeding operational goals.
- Strategic planning and forecasting; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; resolve problems; and address staffing needs.
- Obsess over team learning and development, both from a technical/functional and soft skills (critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and adaptability) development perspective including mentoring and training.
- Develop, improve, and share operational best practices across the globe.
- Hiring, managing, and developing the operations management team including data center managers and data center operations technicians. Planning and executing the Infrastructure Operations component of new AWS data center buildouts, new colocation buildouts, AWS data center expansions, and colocation expansions, including the network and server rack infrastructure to facilitate the daily operations.
- Experience in successful insourcing and/or outsourcing specific tasks balancing internal skillsets with frugality.
- Continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools.
This role supports data centers in various operational stages. The position may be assigned to a facility still under development, which could require travel to established locations for training until your designated site becomes fully operational.
Essential Requirements:
- Ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed
- Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods or until assigned facility is operational
- Travel frequency will vary based on business needs and operational status of assigned facility
Candidates must be able to travel (over 50 miles) or commute (less than 50 miles) to active data center sites as required by business needs.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in technical work related to computer systems and technology components
