Responsibilities

Surveys all classes and complexity of business operations and consults with policyholders and underwriting to determine the type and level of exposures and controls needed. Responsible for providing service plans and providing services to assigned accounts to influence profitability and retention. Determines customers’ ability to control the exposures by gathering information through physical surveys, program audits, loss history analysis, comparison to industry standards and customer interviews. Manages assigned internal and external business partner relationships including underwriting, claims, product, marketing and agencies. Provides training, mentoring, specialized technical advice and counsel to staff and customers. SME in a class or line of business and provides referral/report reviews to staff related to the expertise. Assist Underwriters with risk selection and ongoing account management.


Key functions include but are not limited to the following:


Senior Loss Control Consultant

  • Conducts surveys to identify and evaluating hazards and controls pertaining to all lines of coverage to all types of existing and prospective accounts and complex accounts.

  • Submits recommendations to improve conditions which will mitigate or control the hazards identified and follows up on recommendations.

  • Provides and helps others facilitate service plans/service/training to policyholders, to help improve profitability/retention.

  • Onboard, mentor and train loss control field staff.

  • SME in a class or line of business; provide referral help and report/quality review to loss control field staff

  • Work independently for client/agent onboarding and service capability presentations.

  • Strong knowledge and ability to determine fire protection systems adequacy and building replacement costs for self and other loss control staff.

  • Prepare timely written reports of findings to assist in the underwriter’s risk selection process.

  • Participate and lead in branch and staff meetings as needed.

  • Provides in-depth knowledge and ability to sell in-house and vendor services information to inside and outside customers to help with branch profitability.

  • Ability to provide service plans and solutions to claims data, loss runs and to identify trends.

  • Thorough knowledge in one or more class of business/line of business.

  • Meets or exceeds Department Standards for production, quality and timeliness of survey work.

  • Actively participates in professional organizations.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Proficient use of inside and outside insurance/loss control/underwriter systems and tools.

  • Strong knowledge of regulatory standards (OSHA, DOT) and local/national codes (NFPA, NEC and others) and standard based organizations (ASME, ANSI, CPSC and others).

  • Strong knowledge of appetite, Quality Control standards and expectation of hazard control for class/line of business

  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Qualifications:



  • The ability to travel on a frequent basis, including overnight.

  • Monitors own workload and work independently to ensure timely service and meet deadlines.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Strong leadership skills.

  • Experience working with multi-line commercial accounts preferred.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to implement solutions.

  • Proven ability to build and maintain professional client relationships.

  • Perform multiple duties in a fast-paced environment; quickly and professionally respond to customer inquiries; prioritize and organize assigned tasks.

  • Possess strong customer orientation and effective interpersonal and communication skills, including presentation skills.

  • The ability to efficiently navigate the Internet to conduct research.

  • Valid driver’s license required. Completion of CSP, OSHT, AINS, ARM, CPCU or similar designations. Specialized designation in fleet, construction or other class/line of business, CRIS, TRIP or similar designations preferred.

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with emphasis in occupational/industrial safety, construction, engineering or insurance and 8 years property/casualty loss control experience; or 12 years property/casualty risk control experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Training/presentation experience required.
