Description:

CompQsoft is seeking a skilled professional Drafter to support our Navy Contract Client. The Drafter will create, modify, and maintain technical drawings and specifications using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to support Department of Defense (DoD), Commander Navy Installations Command (CNIC), and Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) project requirements. This position requires the ability to convert engineering sketches, specifications, and design concepts into precise technical drawings that comply with government standards, military specifications (MIL-SPEC), Navy technical documentation standards, and DoD specifications. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineers, architects, project managers, and contracting officers to ensure all drawings meet project requirements, support contract deliverables, and maintain compliance with Navy and DoD technical standards.


This position supports Navy installation infrastructure projects, information warfare systems development, and fleet readiness operations consistent with CNIC and NIWC mission requirements.

Requirements


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Create detailed technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics using AutoCAD and other CAD software platforms

Review and interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and design requirements from engineers and architects

Prepare construction drawings, assembly drawings, and manufacturing layouts for DoD projects

Ensure all drawings comply with applicable industry standards, building codes, and DoD specifications

Update and revise existing drawings based on design changes, engineering modifications, or site conditions

Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, project managers, and quality assurance personnel

Maintain organized drawing files, version control, and documentation in accordance with project management standards

Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs) and dimension specifications for manufacturing and construction

Conduct quality checks on drawings for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to specifications

Support proposal development efforts by creating technical drawings and diagrams for RFP responses

Assist in the preparation of as-built drawings and project closeout documentation

Participate in design review meetings and incorporate feedback into drawing revisions


Education

Associate's degree in Drafting Technology, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Engineering Technology, or related technical field; OR

High school diploma or equivalent with minimum two years of professional drafting experience


Experience

Minimum 2-5 years of experience as a drafter in engineering, architecture, or manufacturing environment

Demonstrated experience creating technical drawings for construction, manufacturing, or engineering projects

Experience working on government contracts or DoD projects preferred

Portfolio demonstrating proficiency in CAD software and technical drawing capabilities


Technical Skills

Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (required)

Experience with 3D modeling software (SolidWorks, Revit, or similar platforms)

Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) principles and practices

Proficiency in dynamic blocks, external references (xrefs), and sheet set management

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and specifications

Understanding of engineering and architectural terminology

Familiarity with dimensioning and tolerancing standards (GD&T)

Knowledge of material specifications and construction methods


Regulatory Knowledge

Working knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards

Familiarity with ISO standards for technical drawings (ISO 128, ISO 5457, ISO 7200)

Understanding of DoD drawing standards: MIL-STD-100 (Engineering Drawing Practices) and MIL-STD-31000 (Technical Data Packages)

Knowledge of Navy technical documentation standards including NAVFAC drawing standards

Understanding of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) for Navy installation infrastructure projects

Knowledge of National CAD Standard (NCS) and American Institute of Architects (AIA) standards

Familiarity with NIWC technical documentation requirements for information warfare systems

Compliance with OPNAV Instructions and technical directives as applicable


Security Requirements

Must be a U.S. Citizen (Required for all Navy civilian positions)

Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance per DoD 5220.22-M (National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual)

Successful completion of SF-86 (Questionnaire for National Security Positions)

Ability to pass background investigation conducted by Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA)

Compliance with pre-employment drug screening per Navy Drug-Free Workplace Program

Eligibility determination based on loyalty, reliability, suitability, and trustworthiness standards

Adherence to DoD Directive 5500.07 (Standards of Conduct and Ethics)

Submission of OF-306 (Declaration for Federal Employment) and supporting identity documentation


Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Navy systems, shipboard design projects, or Navy installation facilities

Experience supporting CNIC infrastructure projects or NIWC information warfare systems

Certification in AutoCAD or Autodesk Certified Professional designation

Familiarity with electrical, mechanical, civil, or telecommunications engineering drawings

Experience with Navisworks, MicroStation, Bentley products, or other specialized design software

Knowledge of submarine, surface ship, or shore facility construction standards

Experience supporting proposal development and RFP responses for Navy contracts

Previous experience as Lead Drafter, CAD Manager, or technical documentation lead

Familiarity with Navy Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems

Understanding of Program Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) as applied to Navy projects
