What is a freelance chief creative officer?

A Freelance Chief Creative Officer (CCO) is an independent professional who leads the creative vision and direction for companies or projects on a contract basis. Unlike a full-time CCO employed by a single organization, a freelance CCO works with multiple clients, helping them develop branding, marketing campaigns, and overall creative strategies. They collaborate with various teams to ensure that all creative work aligns with the client’s goals and brand identity. This role requires strong leadership, creative expertise, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

How does a freelance chief creative officer typically collaborate with clients and creative teams across multiple projects?

As a Freelance Chief Creative Officer, you will regularly coordinate with clients and diverse creative teams, often juggling multiple projects simultaneously. This role involves establishing clear communication channels, setting creative direction, and ensuring that project goals align with client expectations. Freelance CCOs use project management tools and video conferencing to bridge remote work gaps, manage timelines, and foster a collaborative environment. Building strong relationships and maintaining flexibility are key to adapting to different team dynamics and client cultures.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance chief creative officer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Freelance Chief Creative Officer, you need extensive experience in creative direction, strategic brand development, and a strong portfolio demonstrating innovative leadership. Familiarity with design software (such as Adobe Creative Suite), project management tools, and up-to-date digital marketing platforms is crucial. Outstanding communication, vision, and the ability to inspire and collaborate with diverse teams are vital soft skills. These competencies are essential to drive compelling brand narratives, ensure cohesive creative output, and deliver impactful results for clients in a competitive market.

Job description

STRUCK is searching for a Utah based Architectural Designer who brings creative vision and technical precision together to support the design and execution of branded spaces, immersive environments, and architectural experiences.

We Need...
  • The Architectural Designer will work closely with our Chief Creative Officer, Design Architect, and other creative and production team members. You’ll contribute to early concept development, mood boards, and storytelling—while also producing accurate drawings, 3D models, and documentation through each project phase. This role is ideal for a designer who’s passionate about the intersection of narrative and form, and eager to grow in both aesthetic exploration and architectural detailing.
You Have...
  • Must be located in Utah.
  • 3-7 years of professional experience in architecture, experiential design, or a related field.
  • Masters or equivalent professional degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating both conceptual design thinking and technical drafting/modeling skills.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, SketchUp, Bluebeam and Adobe Creative Suite; familiarity with Enscape, Lumion, or similar rendering tools.
  • Understanding of basic building systems, codes, and construction terminology.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with an eagerness to learn from both creative and technical team members.
You Will...
  • Develop sketches, mood boards, diagrams, and narratives to shape project vision.
  • Collaborate with architects and creative leadership to align inspiration with feasibility.
  • Translate abstract ideas into spatial concepts and immersive branded experiences.
  • Create drawings, 3D models, renderings, and visual assets across all project phases.
  • Integrate consultant input and ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance in documentation.
  • Support presentations, client deliverables, and design reviews.
  • Conduct research on materials, trends, and building systems.
  • Participate in site visits, RFIs, and mockups to maintain design intent.
