Freelance Audio Video Editing information

What is freelance audio video editing?

Freelance audio video editing involves working independently to edit and produce audio and video content for clients, rather than being employed by a single company. Freelance editors use specialized software to cut, arrange, enhance, and synchronize audio and video files according to the client’s needs. Projects may include commercials, YouTube videos, podcasts, films, or social media content. As freelancers, editors manage their own schedules, client communications, and sometimes multiple projects at once. This role requires both technical proficiency and creativity to deliver high-quality, compelling content.

What are some common challenges freelance audio video editors face when working with multiple clients simultaneously?

Freelance audio video editors often juggle several projects at once, which can make time management and organization challenging. It's important to keep clear communication with each client about deadlines, expectations, and project revisions to avoid overlap and misunderstandings. Utilizing project management tools and setting realistic turnaround times can help streamline the workflow and ensure high-quality results for all clients. Additionally, freelancers must be adaptable to various editing styles and software preferences depending on each client's needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance audio video editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Audio Video Editor, you need expertise in video and audio editing principles, a creative eye, and proficiency with industry-standard software like Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and Audacity, usually supported by a portfolio of completed projects. Familiarity with digital asset management, color grading tools, and advanced effects plugins is often required, and certifications in editing software can be advantageous. Strong communication, time management, and problem-solving skills help freelancers collaborate with clients and meet tight deadlines. These abilities ensure the delivery of high-quality, engaging content and satisfied clients in a competitive, deadline-driven market.

Job description

Franchise Sidekick Overview
Are you a life-changer? Do you believe in guiding people toward living life on their terms? At Franchise Sidekick, we help aspiring and established entrepreneurs reduce the risk of buying a franchise by providing insider access, trusted education, and a proven process.
We are a content-driven, technology-forward franchise advisory firm generating over 60,000 leads per year. Video is at the core of how we educate, build trust, and convert leads across long sales cycles-and the Sidekick Life Podcast is the engine that powers it all.
We're looking for a Video Production & Growth Manager who doesn't just make great content-they make content that converts. Someone who can produce with quality, publish with strategy, and optimize relentlessly.
Role Overview
Job Title: Video Production Manager
Job Type: Full-Time W2 Employee
Reports To: VP of Marketing
Department Head: Director of Brand & Content
Direct Reports: No
Location: Omaha, NE HQ (Hybrid: Office + Work From Home)
Compensation: Base Salary $75,000 + Up to $13,500 Incentive Bonus
Your Impact On Team Sidekick
As Video Production & Growth Manager, you will own the full lifecycle of video content at Franchise Sidekick-from raw footage to final publish to performance optimization.
The Sidekick Life Podcast is our most important content asset. You'll be responsible for producing, distributing, and repurposing every episode across YouTube and social channels, ensuring it drives real business results-not just views.
This is not a passive editing role. You will bring content ideas to life, build the systems that scale production, and actively manage our YouTube channel to grow subscribers, increase watch time, and convert viewers into leads.
Sidekick Life Podcast Production (25%)
  • Own end-to-end production of the Sidekick Life Podcast-recording, editing, audio/video sync, and final delivery.
  • Create short-form clips, highlights, and social-ready cuts from every episode.
  • Ensure every episode is published on schedule with consistent quality, branding, and storytelling.
  • Collaborate with hosts and guests to deliver a polished, professional experience from setup through post-production.
  • Manage episode distribution across podcast platforms and YouTube.

YouTube Channel Growth & Conversion Optimization (20%)
  • Own the Franchise Sidekick YouTube channel strategy, with a focus on subscriber growth, watch time, and lead conversion.
  • Optimize every upload for discoverability: titles, descriptions, tags, chapters, thumbnails, and end screens designed to drive action.
  • Analyze channel analytics to identify what's working, what's dropping off, and where to improve.
  • Build and manage playlists, channel structure, and CTAs that guide viewers toward conversion.
  • Stay current on YouTube algorithm trends and apply them proactively.
  • Test and iterate on thumbnails, hooks, and video formats to improve click-through and retention rates.

Video Production, Editing & Photography (25%)
  • Produce and edit high-quality video across multiple formats: long-form YouTube content, social clips, promotional videos, and event coverage.
  • Manage the full production process from raw footage to final delivery.
  • Capture live video and photography at Franchise Sidekick events.
  • Serve as the internal photographer for headshots, team culture content, and brand moments.
  • Ensure all visual assets align with brand standards and elevate overall content quality.

Paid Creative & Performance Support (10%)
  • Partner with the Growth team to produce video assets for paid traffic campaigns.
  • Edit and adapt content to improve performance across platforms.
  • Support rapid iteration of video ads and creative testing based on performance data.

Production Systems & AI-Driven Efficiency (20%)
  • Build and maintain efficient workflows for production, file organization, and asset management.
  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate editing, clipping, captioning, transcription, and repurposing.
  • Identify opportunities to increase content output through automation and emerging technologies.
  • Stay current on trends in video production, social platforms, and content formats.
  • Ensure deadlines are met consistently across all content initiatives.

A Day in the Life...
No two days look the same-and that's what makes this role dynamic.
One day, you're editing and publishing the latest Sidekick Life Podcast episode, pulling the three best clips for YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels, and checking how last week's episode is performing. The next, you're working with the Growth team to produce new video ad variations, or experimenting with a different thumbnail style to improve click-through on a top-performing video.
You'll collaborate closely with the Content and Brand teams to keep the production calendar moving and the quality bar high. You'll also be the person who knows what's actually working on our YouTube channel-and what we should do differently.
Whether it's a 60-minute podcast episode, a 30-second ad, or a testimonial from a franchise owner, your work directly shapes how we build trust, grow our audience, and convert leads.
This Job Might Be a Good Fit For You If You...
  • Have 3-6+ years of experience in video production, editing, or content creation.
  • Have direct experience managing or growing a YouTube channel-not just uploading to one.
  • Understand YouTube SEO, channel optimization, and what drives watch time and conversions.
  • Are proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar editing platforms.
  • Have experience producing podcast content (video and/or audio) at a consistent cadence.
  • Understand pacing, storytelling, and what makes content engaging across different platforms.
  • Have experience producing content that supports paid media or performance marketing.
  • Are curious about AI tools and actively use them to improve efficiency.
  • Can manage multiple projects and deadlines without sacrificing quality.
  • Take ownership of your work and proactively identify ways to improve output.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, high-output environment where your work has direct business impact.

What's In It For You
  • Paid Time Off- Every Sidekick starts with 16 days of PTO, two floating holidays, and a paid volunteer day annually. We also offer nine paid company holidays each year as well. Team Members earn additional PTO for each year of employment.
  • Franchise Ownership Program- After you're established with Sidekick, we offer a Franchise Purchase Discount which allows you to own your own Franchise Business at a $30,000 to $50,000 savings. Some restrictions and minimum qualifications apply to the discount.
  • Client Referral Commission- We encourage every member of Team Sidekick to utilize their network to find qualified candidates for franchise ownership. We pay $3,000 for every qualified lead you submit that ends up purchasing a franchise.
  • Sidekick Benefits- Sidekick offers the following benefits:
    • Full Medical Benefits with up to $750 monthly Employer Contribution (depending on plan type and level, subject to change based on renewals)
    • Employer Paid Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance ($0 cost to employees with options for family coverage)
    • Optional Health Savings Account, Supplemental Insurance, and Cybersecurity Coverage
    • 401k with 3% Employer Contribution (no match required)
    • $1,500 Annual Best Self Stipend for professional and personal development

Working Conditions and Requirements
  • Hybrid work structure: in-office and remote blend
  • Fully equipped in-office production studio provided
  • Travel approximately 15% annually, including at least three Franchise Sidekick events per year and potential travel for testimonial shoots

We take our hiring process seriously-not just because we want to find the most qualified candidates, but because we care about creating the right fit for both you and our team. After you apply, our team will review your materials and reach out if your background and experience align with the role.
