This position can be located in our Chicago, New York, Dallas, or Charlotte locations.
Summary
The Managing Director and Team Lead of Asset-Based Lending ("ABL") Sponsor & Capital Markets, manages a team of Business Development Officers ("BDOs" or "BDO team") who focus on sourcing, structuring, and closing (i) Admin Agency and Sole Bank asset-based lending opportunities owned by Private Equity ("sponsor") and (ii) participations in syndicated sponsor and non-sponsor asset-based loans managed by other financial institutions. This role is responsible for executing strategic growth initiatives, developing and maintaining strong relationships with (i) internal Sponsor Coverage & Capital Markets partners, (ii) directly with private equity sponsors, intermediaries, and bank syndication teams and, (iii) partnering with internal credit, and product teams to deliver high-quality financing solutions. The Team Lead drives market penetration while ensuring disciplined credit, efficient execution, and a best-in-class client experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
Market Strategy & Leadership
  • Leads a team of Business Development Officers responsible for sourcing and closing private equity owned asset-based loans and participations in syndicated asset-based loans.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for internal partners including Sponsor Coverage, Capital Markets, and ABL leadership teams.
  • Develops and executes Huntington's private equity ABL growth strategy, aligning with broader corporate goals and partnership.
  • Develops and executes Huntington's participation strategy and calling efforts with peer bank asset-based bank syndications teams.
  • Provides coaching, performance management, and development planning for BDOs to ensure strong individual and team results.

Business Development & Relationship Management
  • Oversee all aspects of new business origination, including prospecting, sponsor coverage (internal and external), arranger relationships, peer bank syndication coverage, and deal sourcing.
  • Manage and grow strategic relationships with internal partners, private equity firms, investment banks, financial advisors, peer bank syndication teams, and other market influencers.
  • Guides the team in organizing and executing calling efforts, marketing initiatives, including networking events, sponsor roadshows, and Huntington-branded programming.
  • Ensure consistent and high-quality outreach activity within assigned markets.

Deal Execution & Credit Process
  • Oversee underwriting preparation, including review and refinement of prescreens, proposal letters, and detailed underwriting materials.
  • Oversee the credit approval process, participating in credit committees and collaborating with underwriting and relationship and portfolio teams.
  • Assists BDO and relationship and portfolio teams in documentation negotiation and ensures all conditions precedent are satisfied prior to closing.
  • Ensures that deal structures appropriately balance sponsor objectives with Huntington's credit standards.

Internal Collaboration
  • Builds and maintains strong internal relationships with internal bank partners including Sponsor Coverage, Capital Markets, Credit, Portfolio Management, and product specialists.
  • Facilitates communication across teams to ensure seamless execution of transactions.
  • Ensure consistent pipeline reporting, forecasting, and transparent communication with ABL and bank leadership.

Compliance & Governance
  • Ensures all team activities comply with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and risk frameworks.
  • Identifies emerging market risks and trends, advising leadership on potential impacts and strategic adjustments.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 10+ years of asset-based lending, sponsor lending, finance, or capital markets experience.
  • Deep understanding of private equity-backed transactions and syndication processes.
  • Manage teams that negotiate complex sole and administrative agent asset-based lending capital structures including: ABL only, ABL and Split Lien Term Loans (private credit and syndicated markets), ABL and Bond, ABL and Junior Capital and ABL First Out in a Uni-Tranche structure.
  • Strong negotiation skills, including documentation and structuring expertise.
  • Excellent communication and executive-level presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain long-term internal partner, sponsor, and intermediary relationships.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 12+ years of experience within asset-based lending, sponsor finance, leveraged finance, or capital markets.
  • Prior leadership or team management experience.

Compensation Range:
$125,000 - $255,000 Annual Salary
The compensation range represents the anticipated low and high end of the base compensation range for this position. Actual compensation will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and education. Colleagues in this position are also eligible to participate in an applicable incentive compensation plan. In addition, Huntington provides a variety of benefits to colleagues, including health insurance coverage, wellness program, life and disability insurance, retirement savings plan, paid leave programs, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
