Fraud Analyst

Role Type:        Full-time

Salary:            $65,000 - $75,000 per year + annual bonus

Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Fraud Analyst to join our AML Fraud team. This individual will be responsible for investigating and documenting potentially fraudulent activity impacting client accounts and the Firm. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and experience conducting complex financial crime investigations. The Fraud Analyst will collaborate with business partners across the organization, advisors, supervisors, clearing firms, and external parties as necessary to conduct thorough investigations, mitigate losses, and protect clients and the Firm from fraud-related risks.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred, H.S. Diploma or GED certificate + Significant Practical Experience will be considered 

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate potentially fraudulent activity identified through internal monitoring systems, alerts, referrals, or escalations from business units.
  • Conduct comprehensive investigations involving account takeovers, identity theft, elder exploitation, check fraud, ACH and wire fraud, unauthorized trading, social engineering, and other financial crimes.
  • Gather, analyze, and document evidence from internal and external sources to determine the nature and extent of suspicious or fraudulent activity.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed case documentation, investigation summaries, and referrals in accordance with Firm procedures.
  • Work closely with Financial Advisors, supervisors, operations teams, cybersecurity teams, clearing firms, and clients to obtain information and resolve investigations.
  • Identify emerging fraud trends, typologies, and control weaknesses and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Recommend actions to mitigate client impact, reduce Firm risk exposure, and prevent future fraud events.
  • Support regulatory, legal, and internal inquiries related to fraud investigations.
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality while handling sensitive client and Firm information.
  • Ensure investigations are completed within established service level agreements and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay current on fraud schemes, industry trends, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in fraud prevention initiatives, process improvements, and special projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in financial services, fraud investigations, risk management, compliance, AML, or a related field.
  • Experience conducting investigations involving financial fraud, account compromise, identity theft, or other financial crimes.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience documenting investigations and preparing detailed case summaries.
  • Ability to assess risk, identify patterns, and make sound investigative decisions.
  • Knowledge of fraud detection tools, case management systems, and monitoring platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple investigations simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues across various business units.
  • General understanding of SEC, FINRA, and Firm-specific regulations applicable to broker-dealers and advisory businesses.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designation preferred.
  • CAMS, CFCS, or other financial crime certification preferred.
  • FINRA Series 7 license is a plus.
  • Experience investigating fraud in a broker-dealer, investment advisory, banking, or clearing firm environment.
  • Knowledge of retail brokerage operations, advisory accounts, and investment products including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, ETFs, annuities, and alternative investments.
  • Experience with fraud monitoring, case management, or transaction surveillance systems.
  • Knowledge of account takeover trends, cybersecurity-related fraud schemes, and financial crime typologies.
