Job Summary
Under the direction of Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance leadman, the railcar Repairman will inspect, evaluate, maintain, and repair / overhaul any company owned or leased railroad rolling stock & perform all other duties required to keep said stock in proper & safe operating condition.
Job Responsibilities
1. Maintain & repair the car frame & body.
2. Inspect, evaluate, maintain, & repair / overhaul air brake systems, trucks, wheels, & bearings on railway rolling stock.
3. Maintain & overhaul air operated equipment related to railway stock.
4. Prepare & keep written records, supply inventory levels & job orders.
5. Assist in switching & movement of all rail stock railcar only.
6. May need to operate a Backhoe and Skid steer.
7. Perform housekeeping duties on equipment and work areas to maintain a safe and orderly appearance.
8. Perform any other work related to the maintenance & repair of rail cars as assigned by supervisor.
9. Do all the painting that is essential to the identification, maintenance, & repairs of railway stock.
10. Train or assist in training in the duties of Repairman I.
11. Must comply with company safety rules and regulations and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds. Safety equipment means clothing and apparatus including, but not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection, safety shoes, back support belts, gloves, and respirators.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Equipment and Tools:
Railway rolling stock, wheel & bearing gauges, jacks (hydraulic & air) & other lifting devices, micrometers, air test equipment, power tools, miscellaneous small hand tools & other incidental equipment required to perform the job properly.
Materials and Parts Processed or Handled:
Miscellaneous heavy steel such as plate, parts, angle iron, wheels, axles, etc. & lubricants. Plus, any other incidental materials or parts required to perform the job properly.
Working Conditions
The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme heat.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, which necessitates the wearing of a respirator, and vibration.
