ROLE OVERVIEW:

This is a seasonal position, you can use your winters off to travel, hunt, fish or for other activities you enjoy while your benefits continue year-round.

Rail Crew Foreman operates under the supervision of the Rail Crew Manager unloading aggregates and other materials from rail cars. This will include shoveling, bending, lifting, cleaning cars, and other duties requested. The job may take place in various locations throughout North Dakota and parts of Minnesota with out-of-town work required. Work is primarily outdoors lasting from April through December – weather permitting.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES (summary of components that make up the job)

  1. Oversee offloading process and integrate with crew members to complete tasks
  2. Effectively manage crews time to safely achieve optimal outcomes
  3. Complete and assist with necessary paperwork
  4. Unload rail cars
  5. Prepare pit and work area
  6. Complete routine maintenance
  7. Track maintenance to include weed control
  8. Ensure DOT, MSHA, OSHA, EPA, DNR, safety and environmental regulation compliance.
  9. Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (types and extent of knowledge, skills or abilities an incumbent must possess to complete the job responsibilities satisfactorily)

  1. Working knowledge of safe rail car unloading procedures and material handling.
  2. Basic understanding of FRA, DOT, MSHA, OSHA, EPA, and environmental safety regulations.
  3. Ability to complete required paperwork accurately and on time.
  4. Strong communication and team leadership skills.
  5. Ability to manage crew time efficiently while maintaining safety and productivity.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (minimum educational, experience, or other relevant job requirements)

  1. High school diploma or GED required.
  2. Minimum of 2 years of experience in rail operations, aggregate handling, construction, or related industrial work.
  3. Ability to hold and maintain proper licensure and acceptable driving record.
  4. Ability to work flexible shifts, including overtime, possible nights and some Saturdays.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS (preferred requirements i.e. certifications, software use, etc.)

  1. Prior crew leadership or foreman experience preferred.
