Foundry Helper information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Foundry Helper, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Foundry Helper, you need physical stamina, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of safety protocols, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with industrial tools, casting machinery, and personal protective equipment (PPE) is typical for this role. Strong teamwork, reliability, and the ability to follow instructions help individuals excel in demanding work environments. These skills are crucial for maintaining safety, efficiency, and quality in foundry operations.

What are some typical challenges faced by a Foundry Helper, and how can they be addressed on the job?

Foundry Helpers often work in environments with high temperatures, heavy materials, and strict safety protocols. Common challenges include managing physical fatigue, staying alert to potential hazards, and maintaining consistent quality in repetitive tasks. To address these, it's important to follow all safety guidelines, use proper protective equipment, and communicate regularly with team members about workflow and any issues that arise. Building physical stamina and being proactive in seeking guidance from more experienced workers can also help new hires adapt successfully.

What are Foundry Helpers?

Foundry Helpers are workers who assist in the daily operations of a foundry, where metals are melted and cast into shapes. Their duties typically include preparing molds, handling materials, cleaning equipment, and supporting skilled foundry workers in pouring and finishing metal castings. Foundry Helpers play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. They may also be responsible for inspecting parts for quality and following safety protocols to prevent accidents. This entry-level position often provides on-the-job training and opportunities for advancement within the foundry industry.

What is the difference between Foundry Helper vs Foundry Worker?

AspectFoundry HelperFoundry Worker
Required CredentialsHigh school diploma or equivalent; basic safety trainingHigh school diploma or equivalent; specialized foundry safety certifications often preferred
Work EnvironmentAssists in foundry operations, supports skilled workers, and handles basic tasksPerforms more hands-on tasks like pouring, molding, and operating foundry equipment
Employer & Industry UsageCommonly employed in foundries, manufacturing plants, and metal casting facilitiesTypically employed in similar settings, often with more direct production responsibilities

Foundry Helpers assist skilled foundry workers by performing supportive tasks, while Foundry Workers are more involved in the core production activities like pouring and molding. Both roles require safety training and are essential in foundry operations, but Foundry Workers usually have more hands-on responsibilities and technical skills.

Job description

A growing government technology and mission solutions firm is seeking multiple Cleared Data Engineers to support a new onsite effort at the Pentagon. These roles will support mission-focused data, analytics, and platform development work involving Palantir Maven / Foundry and related operational data environments.

This is an excellent opportunity for engineers who have experience with Palantir, Maven, Foundry, Army Vantage, data platforms, dashboards, software development, data pipelines, or similar DoD analytics tools. Candidates do not need to be senior-level Palantir experts. The team is open to junior, mid-level, and senior engineers who have the right technical foundation, active clearance, and willingness to learn.

The ideal candidate is a cleared technical professional with strong problem-solving ability, technical curiosity, and experience supporting government or defense customers. This individual will work onsite with mission stakeholders and technical teams to help develop, configure, improve, and support data-driven solutions in a secure environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the development, configuration, and enhancement of data and analytics solutions using Palantir Maven / Foundry or similar platforms
  • Work with government stakeholders and technical teams to understand mission needs and translate requirements into usable technical solutions
  • Assist with data integration, data modeling, dashboards, workflows, and platform configuration
  • Develop and support scripts, applications, tools, or data pipelines using languages such as Python, Java, TypeScript, JavaScript, SQL, or similar technologies
  • Help improve data accessibility, usability, and visibility for operational and mission users
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and support users in a secure government environment
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and platform experts to learn and grow within Palantir Maven / Foundry environments
  • Support documentation, testing, deployment, and ongoing solution improvement activities as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Active Secret clearance
  • Ability to work onsite at the Pentagon
  • Technical experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, software development, systems engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with one or more programming or scripting languages such as Python, Java, TypeScript, JavaScript, SQL, or similar
  • Exposure to data platforms, dashboards, data pipelines, APIs, operational data, or analytics tools
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to learn new tools and platforms quickly
  • U.S. citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Palantir Foundry, Palantir Maven, Army Vantage, AIP, Ontology, Workshop, Slate, or related Palantir tools
  • Experience supporting DoD, military, intelligence, or federal government customers
  • Experience working in classified or secure government environments
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, Git, APIs, cloud environments, data visualization, or modern software development practices
  • Experience developing dashboards, workflows, or user-facing analytics tools
  • Prior experience supporting operational, logistics, readiness, intelligence, or mission planning data environments

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent technical experience will also be considered.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate may be a junior, mid-level, or senior engineer who has an active Secret clearance, can work onsite at the Pentagon, and has experience with software, data, analytics, or mission technology platforms.

Prior Palantir experience is highly preferred, but candidates with strong adjacent technical experience and the ability to be trained on Maven / Foundry will also be considered.

About the Opportunity:

This role offers the chance to support a high-visibility Pentagon-based mission effort while gaining deeper experience with Palantir Maven / Foundry and mission-critical data platforms. The team has experienced Palantir professionals in place and is prepared to train technically capable engineers who bring the right clearance, attitude, and engineering foundation.
