Wieland is hiring a Foundry Tech. The Foundry Tech will be responsible for monitoring the process of refining and casting copper. The ideal candidate will have previous foundry experience working with molten metals. This role is located in Shelbyville and will be fully on-site.

Starting Pay: $22.00/hr

Schedule: Monthly Rotating 12-hour Shifts

  • Day Shift: 6:00 AM - 6:30 PM
  • Night Shift: 6:30 PM - 6:00 AM

Pay Schedule: Weekly

Responsibilities

Foundry Technician Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Casting Operator with the charging, melting, refining, and casting processes including temperature controls, sampling of metal, monitoring of fume treatment system, runway preparation, and controlling and monitoring the casting of molten copper into solid ingot form.
  • Safely drive forklifts to move molten metals during casts
  • Skim slag from surface of molten metal
  • Performs housekeeping functions in the foundry department including preventative maintenance, machine cleaning, and manufacturing floor cleaning safely.
  • Visually be able to inspect procedures and determine any issues and defects
  • Notify the Casting Operator and correct any defects as permissible, if possible according to specifications
  • Work with other departments to notify of processes that did not turn out correctly and to stop any future jobs from being affected
  • Follow oral and written instructions and/or directions given by supervisors to complete assigned work projects

Foundry Technician Qualifications:

  • Ability to bring your best self every day to safely meet and exceed production and quality standards
  • Must be able to work a 12-hour schedule to support our 24/7 Foundry operation
  • Shop Math: Understanding of basic math calculations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform duties in working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, temperature extremes, multiple physical positions and other elements for extended periods of time.
