Founding Product Manager information

What is a founding product manager?

A Founding Product Manager is an early team member, often one of the first hires, responsible for shaping the product vision and strategy at a startup. They work closely with the founders to define the product roadmap, gather user feedback, and prioritize features to help achieve product-market fit. Unlike traditional product managers, Founding Product Managers often wear multiple hats, contributing to areas like user research, design, and even marketing. Their decisions can significantly influence the trajectory of the company, making this a highly impactful and entrepreneurial role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a founding product manager?

To thrive as a Founding Product Manager, you need strong product strategy, market analysis, and cross-functional leadership skills, typically backed by experience in product management or startup environments. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Figma, analytics platforms, and agile methodologies is commonly required. Exceptional communication, adaptability, and entrepreneurial mindset are vital soft skills for this role. These capabilities are crucial for driving early-stage product success, aligning diverse teams, and quickly iterating in dynamic startup settings.

What unique challenges can a founding product manager expect when building products in an early-stage startup?

As a Founding Product Manager, you’ll often face the challenge of working with limited resources and ambiguous requirements, as early-stage startups typically have evolving priorities and smaller teams. You’ll likely wear multiple hats, closely collaborating with founders, engineers, and designers to define the product vision and quickly iterate on feedback. This environment demands strong adaptability, proactive problem-solving, and a willingness to validate assumptions through rapid experimentation. Being comfortable with change and uncertainty is essential, but these challenges also offer the unique opportunity to shape the company’s product strategy and culture from the ground up.

What is the difference between Founding Product Manager vs Product Manager?

Founding Clinical AI Lead

Miami, FL • On-site

Full-time

Posted 26 days ago

Job description

We are looking for a Founding Clinical AI Lead to serve as the first operator for a new healthcare venture.
This role sits at the center of product discovery, health system relationships, and early business formation. You will be on the ground inside a major academic health system, building trust with executives and operators, while working closely with Atomic and a technical founding team to identify which problems are worth turning into scalable businesses.
The initial product is a novel hardware detection suite to capture clinical events occurring in critical care locations of the hospital to augment back-office tasks and support patient safety. This is a true 0-1 for someone who combines strong judgment, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to operate credibly across healthcare, data, and early stage company building.
What you'll do...
  • Act as the founding operator for a new healthcare company from concept through early validation and launch.
  • Build deep, trusted relationships inside a large academic health system, working directly with hospital administrators and senior executives.
  • Serve as the primary bridge between health system stakeholders, Atomic, and the engineering and data teams, taking on much of the day-to-day relationship building and coordination efforts.
  • Work closely with technical partners to explore and analyze claims and operational data, observe workflows, and identify high-leverage problems worth solving.
  • Support early go-to-market efforts, including piloting with the partner health system and shaping a path to selling into additional systems.

Who You Are...
  • A natural relationship builder who can earn trust with senior hospital leadership while still pushing for progress.
  • A clear and confident communicator, comfortable engaging with CIOs, CFOs, and clinical and operational leaders.
  • A pragmatic operator with strong product and business instincts, even if you are not deeply technical.
  • Comfortable navigating health system bureaucracies, ambiguity, and incomplete information.
  • High ownership, founder energy, and a bias toward action.

What you'll bring on Day 1...
  • Demonstrated success finding product market fit at the 0 to 1 stage. Taking ambiguous problems from exploration to action.
  • Experience operating in or alongside the healthcare ecosystem.
  • Experience working directly with health system leaders, hospital operators, or payer-adjacent workflows.
  • Strong judgment and independence, with comfort making decisions in fast-moving, under-specified environments.

Not a dealbreaker, but you'll stand out...
  • Based in the greater Miami area or open to relocation. Ideally working from our offices 2-3 days a week with the CTO and Head of Healthcare.
  • Exposure to healthcare consulting, data-intensive environments, or early-stage health tech companies
  • Worked with cameras/sensors/hardware

We are focused on building a diverse and inclusive workforce. If you're excited about this role, but do not meet 100% of the qualifications listed above, we encourage you to apply.
