The Lead Hand supports the Foreman in coordinating daily field operations for Hall Shoring & Foundations projects. This role provides direction to Operators and Labourers, helps maintain safe and efficient work areas, and contributes to achieving daily production goals. The Lead Hand assists with planning, communication, equipment coordination, hazard control, and crew mentorship while performing hands-on tasks as required. The position requires strong knowledge of foundation piling and drilling operations and the ability to support both safety and production expectations on-site.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Foreman with the daily coordination of drilling, piling, pumping, and rigging activities.
  • Support daily planning to help organize work areas, equipment, tools, and materials for efficient workflow.
  • Providedirectionto Operators andLabourersand reinforce safe, efficient task execution.
  • Mentor workers in safe work practices, equipment awareness, rigging fundamentals, and task-specific techniques.
  • Assistwith daily hazard assessments, toolbox meetings, and pre-task planning sessions.
  • Ensure work areas, tools, and equipment aremaintainedin clean and safecondition.
  • Inspect equipment, tools, and vehicles as assigned and communicate deficiencies to the Foreman.
  • Assistwith identifying site hazards and implementingappropriate controls.
  • Monitor crew performance and provide feedback to support quality, productivity, and teamwork.
  • Coordinate movement of materials, hoses, rigging, and equipment to support drilling and piling operations.
  • Support rigging and hoisting activities byassistingwith loadsecurementand communication with crane and equipment operators.
  • Suspend any activity that presents an immediate risk to personnel, equipment, or the environment, and notify the Foreman or Superintendentimmediately.
  • Communicate clearly with the Foremanregardingmanpower, equipment needs, safety concerns, and production progress.
  • Represent Halls values through professionalism, accountability, and strong workethic.
  • Perform equipment operation orlabouringtasks whenrequiredto support production.

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of foundation piling, drilling,anchor installation, and concrete placement processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret pile layouts, drawings, and basic engineered details.
  • Understanding ofground stability, soil conditions, and safe equipment positioning.
  • Knowledge of rigging and hoisting practices, including slingselection, loadsecurement, and signaling.
  • Ability toidentifyhazards involving overhead and underground utilities.
  • Familiarity with mobile equipment capabilities and limitations.
  • Understanding ofsite organization principles, material staging, and work sequencing.
  • Ability to complete basic equipment and tool inspections.

  • Demonstrates leadership, initiative, and strong situational awareness.
  • Communicates clearly and respectfully with Foremen, Operators, andLabourers.
  • Supports a positive crew culture by encouraging teamwork, accountability, and safety.

Qualifications:


  • Years of experience:Minimum2to4years of field experience in drilling, piling, or foundation construction.
  • Education: High School or Equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 licenserequired.
  • Considered an asset:
    • LSE (or equivalent supervisory training)
    • Ground Disturbance Level 2
    • First Aid
    • Rigging
    • Fall Protection
    • MEWP
  • Physical requirements
    • Must be capable of performing physically demanding tasks including climbing,lifting upto 50lbs, working outdoors in varying weather conditions, and navigating uneven ground.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime and weekends as necessary to meet project deadlines.
