POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Accounting Systems is responsible for leading the organization's financial system strategy, reporting tool optimizations and user adoption initiatives. This role oversees the implementation and enhancement of accounting and financial software solutions, drives system upgrades, and leads the redesign of financial reporting processes to improve efficiency, accuracy and scalability. Key responsibilities include directing enterprise-wide system implementations and upgrades, managing cross-functional training and change management efforts, and ensuring alignment of financial systems and processes across departments. The Director partners closely with Operations, Asset Management, IT, and Business Systems teams to support financial performance, operational excellence, and data-driven decision making. The position also serves as a key steward of financial controls and reporting integrity. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and ensure that accounting processes, financial reporting, and system configurations comply with applicable accounting standards and organizational policies. The Director will be a strategic leader with expertise in financial systems, process improvement, project management and cross-departmental collaboration.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
  • Develop and execute the organization's financial system strategy to support business objectives, operational efficiency and scalable growth
  • Lead the implementation, enhancement, integration and maintenance of accounting and financial reporting systems
  • Oversee system upgrades and provide software evaluations to ensure successful implementation and user adoption
  • Manage financial reporting tools and drive process improvements that enhance data accuracy, reporting efficiency and user experience
  • Optimize financial reporting and accounting workflows, identifying opportunities for automation, standardization and efficiency gains
  • Develop and deliver training documentation and user support resources to increase system adoption and proficiency
  • Create and maintain governance standards, policies, and procedures related to financial systems and reporting processes
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes through effective system management and reporting capabilities
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration to ensure financial systems effectively support strategic business objectives and operational excellence.
  • Lead financial systems efforts while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability
  • Support the development of short and long-term company growth strategies
  • Other duties/responsibilities/special projects as assigned

ESSENTIAL SKILLS: The successful candidate for this position will have, at minimum, the following skills, experience, and characteristics:

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or equivalent degree or equivalent education, training and experience required
  • CPA license and/or CMA certification preferred
  • A minimum of 7+ years of accounting experience, preferably in multifamily residential or real estate property management
  • 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting principles
  • Experience with accounting/operating software such as Real Page, Yardi, MRI
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office (advanced Excel user)

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • This job may require you to lift up to 20 pounds, such as computer or printer equipment, files, etc.
  • This position works within an office environment and will mainly be sitting at a desk and regularly utilizing a computer/keyboard and phone. After the initial training period, this position may work remotely part time.
  • Technological aptitude to support virtual communications and organizational management.
  • Reading, writing, and researching are regular components of this position.
