Position: Heavy Truck Driver (non-key)
Location: Fort Rucker, AL

Position Summary:

The Heavy Truck Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy trucks to transport materials, equipment, and personnel across the Fort Rucker Gunnery Range complex. This role supports maintenance, construction, and operational activities by ensuring timely delivery and movement of resources. The driver performs minor mechanical repairs and maintains the vehicle in good working order, contributing to the overall readiness and effectiveness of range operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy trucks to transport materials, equipment, and personnel between work areas
  • Load and unload trucks with or without helpers
  • Perform minor mechanical repairs and routine maintenance on vehicles
  • Maintain vehicle in good working order and ensure compliance with safety regulations
  • Adhere to Fort Rucker Logistics Readiness Center (LRC) Transportation Motor Pool
  • Report accidents, incidents, and vehicle maintenance issues promptly
  • Support other grounds maintenance activities as needed

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating heavy trucks (straight truck over 4 tons, usually 10 wheels)
  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) or equivalent as required by state and federal regulations
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and minor mechanical repair
  • Ability to comply with safety regulations and protocols
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

Physical Demands and Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen, and write. The employee frequently is required to use foot/ankle motions, hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
