Job description

Scope of Assignment 
  • Provider Type: Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatry Physicians.
  • Primary Objective: Provide onsite psychiatry services for the Central Alabama Veteran Healthcare System (CAVHCS).
  • Patient Care (90% of time): Psychiatrists are responsible for inpatient care (admissions, diagnosis, treatment plans, discharge) and outpatient care (referrals, post-discharge follow-ups, and specialty consults). Administrative (10% of time): Participation in quality improvement meetings, staff meetings, and documenting complications or outcomes.
  • Trainee Supervision: Responsible for the education and supervision of health professions trainees (HPTs) in accordance with VA and accrediting agency guidelines. 
Operational Logistics
  • Workload Estimate: Providers are expected to have 6 to 6.5 bookable patient hours per day.
  • Case Volume: This typically involves 6 patients for one hour each, 12 patients for 30 minutes each, or a combination thereof. Standard Business Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
  • On-Call Responsibilities: Covering nights (4:30 PM – 7:30 AM), weekends (Friday 4:30 PM – Monday 8:00 AM), and federal holidays (8:00 AM – 8:00 PM).
  • Response Times: On-call providers must be available by phone within 15 minutes and on-site within 60 minutes. Key Personnel
