Job description

Position: Heavy Equipment Operator (non-key)
Location: Fort Rucker, AL
Clearance: N/A
Travel: Minimal
Position Summary: The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a variety of heavy machinery to support maintenance, repair, and construction activities across the Fort Rucker Gunnery Range complex. This role is essential for maintaining range infrastructure, including roads, berms, drainage systems, and other facilities critical to safe and effective military training. The operator ensures equipment is used safely and efficiently, contributing directly to the operational readiness and sustainability of the range.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operate heavy equipment including bulldozers, motor graders, loaders, carryalls, scrapers, rollers, and tractors with attachments such as bush hogs and mower attachments
  • Perform maintenance and repair of roads, berms, drainage systems, and other range infrastructure
  • Load and unload materials, supplies, and equipment using heavy machinery
  • Conduct routine inspections of equipment and report malfunctions or safety issues
  • Assist in erosion control, soil stabilization, and vegetation management activities
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment
  • Maintain equipment in good working order and perform minor repairs as needed
  • Operate vehicles and equipment in compliance with Fort Rucker and Army regulations

Required Skills and Abilities:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment such as bulldozers, loaders, graders, scrapers, and tractors
