Cosmetic Formulation Technician
Location: Baton Rouge LA
Job Type: Full-Time | Temp to Hire
Schedule: Monday – Friday day shift
Compensation: $19 per hour
Position Overview
Kelly Science & Clinical is seeking candidates for a Formulation Technician position to join the product development team at a cosmetic manufacturer in Baton Rouge. The overall responsibility of the role is to support the formulation, testing, and development of innovative personal care products for custom and private-label clients.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, a related scientific field, or equivalent experience. This position is well suited for a highly organized, detail-oriented professional who enjoys hands-on laboratory work, problem-solving, and product development.
The successful candidate will be a collaborative team player who can interpret experimental results, maintain accurate documentation, and work independently with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform formulation, testing, reverse formulation, and product development activities for a variety of custom development clients.
  • Work closely with the VP of Product Development to develop innovative private-label products from initial concept through approved, scaled-up formulas.
  • Accurately measure and handle chemical and cosmetic ingredients.
  • Prepare daily laboratory batches according to assigned priorities and specifications.
  • Prepare documentation for formula submissions, batch specifications, and product development activities.
  • Conduct and monitor stability testing on R&D batches.
  • Maintain detailed and organized records within formulation and project management databases.
  • Submit requests for new raw material samples and assist with testing and release of approved materials.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and fine-tune formulation issues to achieve desired product performance and specifications.
  • Perform calculations and assessments required to convert laboratory-scale formulas to larger-scale manufacturing batches.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, a related scientific field, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience or educational background in cosmetic, food, chemical, or personal care formulation is preferred.
  • Strong attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate experimental results.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, formulas, and established procedures.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to accurately document critical batch processes and maintain thorough laboratory records.
  • Strong mathematical skills with the ability to perform formulation and scale-up calculations.
