Job Summary
  • Become a Formula Technician and important member of our Morrison Healthcare Nutrition Team at University of Virginia Children's Hospital in Charlottesville, VA.  The Formula Tech position will be trained and skilled in accurately and safely preparing specialty formulas for hospitalized infants and children.  The formula tech will communicate with dietitians and nurses and supply chain members in order to carry out the job responsibilities.  This is an important role in supporting the clinical team, and preparing specialized nutrition for pediatric patients. 
Key Responsibilities:
    • Accurate screening and identification of formula orders requiring preparation
    • Use of excel to accurately prepare patient formula labels
    • Responsible for the preparation, labeling, storage and delivery of all prepared formulas for the NICU and pediatric units.
    • Demonstrate accurate and consistent measuring and mixing procedures using aseptic technique
    • Adhere to food safety and sanitation regulations and standards
    • Document clearly and accurately on all formula log sheets and temperature log sheets
    • Communicate with nursing staff and/or dietitians for assistance with daily order changes and feeding order clarification.
    • Communicates with supply chain staff as needed to ensure necessary inventory to prepare formulas
    • Complies with all regulatory standards to include federal, state, accrediting agencies, as well as facility confidentiality, HIPPA regulations, and patient rights policies
 
Qualifications
    • High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Associate’s degree, healthcare certification (MA, CNA, PCT, etc) or higher academic degree strongly preferred
    • Preferred work experience: prior experience in healthcare, nutrition, medical lab, or formula/milk room preferred
    • Experience with Excel and word preferred
    • Effective communication and human relation skills
    • Math, problem solving, and logic skills.
    • Ability to perform physical demands of position (see below)
    • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
Physical Demands
    • Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds without assistance
    • Regularly standing for extended periods of time
