A Typical Day

The safety supervisor is responsible for working closely with all levels and champion continuous improvement in Hilmar's Safety Culture. Aid in implementing safety programs to meet federal, state and local regulatory requirements and to insure adherence to Hilmar Cheese Company policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities

Understand and assist site in complying with federal, state and local safety regulatory requirements. 
Conduct in-depth injury and near-miss root cause analyses, and facilitate the correction or mitigation of hazards.
Track completion of corrective action items, support and provide critical safety information to teams. 
Entering timely and accurate information into appropriate database.
Conduct inspections of production facilities/processes towards providing a workplace free of known hazards.
Provide guidance, support, and oversight to departmental safety teams. 
Review Safety Team Minutes, inspection Reports, action logs and follow-up as necessary. 
Collect, analyze, track and support departments in initiating employee safety suggestions and observations.
Conduct, review, and track applicable required safety trainings for site personnel and contractors.
Serve as a Responding member of the Emergency Response Team. 
Collaborate with Environmental and PSM Hazard Communication Program elements.
Maintain electronic SDS database and participate in chemical supplier inventory meetings. 
Coordinate partnership with service providers for fire extinguishers, biohazardous waste pickup etc.
Support the Occupational Health Services Administrator and gather necessary Workers compensation Documents. 
Maintain compliance with HIPPA regulations.
Periodically conduct a blind audit of plant trainer's delivery of safety content. 
Engage with employees on the production floor.

What You Will Need

High School diploma and 4 years related experience, Associates degree and 3 years related experience, or Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience. 
Familiarity with effective Behavior Based Safety concepts
Ability to learn new or technical safety principles and incorporate into self-development.
Able to demonstrate leadership, critical thinking, interpersonal skills, time management, organizational skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.  
Ability to navigate collaborative working environment with other key stakeholders and processes. 
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook).
Must be able to work non-traditional hours and be on-call as needed.

Experience in a food-manufacturing environment.
Experience in a leadership role and/or applicable safety experience in a manufacturing setting.
Experience in facilitating success of programs and initiatives. 
Previous safety professional role experience. 
 

Physical Demands & Work Environment

The role has periods of time when the work environment is sedentary and conducted in an office environment balanced with frequent occasions that require prolonged walking or standing, lifting/ carrying/handling moderate weight objects on a regular basis.   Is required to wear PPE and have a regular presence in manufacturing and warehouse environments in both temperature controlled and uncontrolled locations.
