Job description

High Reach Forklift Operator

Position Summary: The High Reach Forklift Operator in the cold storage is responsible for operating a forklift in a cold environment to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count merchandise. The High Reach Forklift Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient use of the vehicle. The operator is also responsible for order selection, checking, inventory verification, tidiness, loading and unloading of trucks as needed.

Pay: $21hr

Hours: Monday through Friday, 07:00am till 03:30pm

Location: 2369 Spottswood Ave, Memphis, TN. 38114

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Represent FW Logistics in a courteous and professional manner at all times.
  • Receiving: Unloads inbound shipments safely, scans and inspects goods, then moves to storage location, efficiently stacking and recording locations. May require physical adjustment of load, re-stacking of product, average 60 lbs. boxes, occasionally heavier.
  • Checking: Prior to product storage, counts all product, compares count to the driver's manifest and checks shipment for damage, infestation and production code dates or other items as specified. Reports all shortages, overages, damages and misplacements to the immediate supervisor and the appropriate parties.
  • Order Picking: Pulls and prepares product for shipment, (may require heavy lifting) ensuring the exact number and type of product is loaded and shipped.
  • Makes sure product comes from the proper locations and lot numbers agree to the picking documents and performs the picking duties in an efficient manner that meets customer service standards.
  • Loading: Efficiently moves product from the staging area or storage areas into trailers.
  • Equipment: Performs operations with a variety of material handling equipment, maintains the facilities equipment and materials in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion.
  • Daily, inspects and verifies that equipment is operating properly at the start of the day's activities.
  • Advises the supervisor of problems encountered, reports damaged and broken/faulty equipment immediately, and operates all equipment in a safe and efficient manner following prescribed work methods.
  • Housekeeping: Recognizes that a clean working environment is necessary. Helps maintain a clean and orderly workspace, removes wood, plastic, and other obstacles from the floor.
  • Inventory: Keeps appropriate records and reports to guarantee that tight inventory control and security are maintained.
  • Assists in physical inventories, ensuring the proper stock rotation by following lot number identification.
  • Safety, Maintenance: Assists in maintaining the safety of all employees and assists with equipment and building maintenance by informing the area Team Leader and or Supervisor of any unsafe behaviors or conditions.
  • Quality Control: Adheres to following standard operating procedures and processes while suggesting ideas for continuous improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 6 months working in a warehouse, fulfillment center, distribution center or manufacturing environment operating powered industrial forklift.
  • Experience with warehouse management systems and scanning systems is a plus.
Physical Demands
  • Able to work in a warehouse environment where temperature is cold. Able to bend, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach at or above shoulder level if required. Able to sit and or stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to lift up to sixty (60) pounds independently, if required. Proper lifting technique is required.
  • Ability to continuously stand for extended periods of time, up to 10 hours per day, if required. required to tolerate working environment with inside controlled temperatures of –20 degrees Fahrenheit and outside ambient temperatures (including heat, cold and precipitation).
  • Must be able to work overtime up to 10 hours a day if required including weekends.
