Job description

Founded in 1892, by Frank Osborn who authored the popular engineering handbook Osborn’s Tables of Moments of Inertia and Squares of Radii of Gyration, which featured working strengths of steel members, timber beams and columns, and standard loads, unit stresses and constants for a variety of structures. The book quickly became a much-used industry text, the forerunner to today’s popular AISC Steel Construction Manual. Join the firm to continue the legacy that he has built in the Structural Field.

Osborn Engineering is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with 10-20 years of experiences for our office location who will report to the Manager of Structural Engineering. The ideal candidate would have extensive structural engineering experience in a consulting engineering environment working with private and public sector clients.

Position Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff or self-perform the following:
    • Design of new building structures as well as structural alterations, renovations, and additions to existing buildings
    • Preparation of structural integrity and assessment reports
    • Design and detailing of structure including calculations and computer modeling, for steel, concrete, masonry, and timber structures.
    • Manage and Coordinate projects with clients and other disciplines.
    • Collaborate with Senior engineers to assemble structural work products.
    • Prepare design deliverables for SD, DD, CD level documents.
    • Coordinate with Architectural, Electrical and Mechanical drawings and attend coordination meetings.
    • Perform site reviews and construction administration services during the construction phase.
  • Review designs prepared by others as part of Osborn’s QA/QC process.
  • Attend meetings with clients, authorities having jurisdiction, and other professionals as projects require.
  • Work planning and manage the design process to the available hours in the work plan.
  • Project and Client management.
  • Prepare proposals and administer project contracts, including Add Service Agreements.

Job Requirements/Qualifications

  • 10 - 20 years of Structural Design Experience in Consulting Engineering
  • PE license preferred or ability to obtain licensure 
  • SE License preferred.
  • Working knowledge of structural analysis and design software such as REVIT, RISA 3D, RISA Floor, ADAPT.
  • Designing post-tension structures is a requirement
  • Proficient Knowledge of local and national building codes and design practices.
  • Proficient Knowledge of standard construction practices and the ability to work with contractors to address construction issues.
  • Experience in designing Healthcare, Sports, Commercial, Public Sector, Industrial, Education, and/or Institutional projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s in Structural or Civil engineering.
