Utah Valley University invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor in Forensic Science to support high-quality teaching and student engagement within our academic programs. This position offers an exciting opportunity to share professional expertise and contribute to a dynamic learning environment dedicated to student success.
The Adjunct Instructor will be responsible for teaching undergraduate forensic science courses, including crime scene investigation, forensic analysis, and related disciplines. Responsibilities include preparing and delivering course materials, assessing student performance, maintaining accurate records, and fostering an engaging and supportive classroom environment. The instructor will also collaborate with faculty and department leadership to ensure course objectives align with program outcomes.
Qualified candidates will have relevant academic credentials in forensic science or a closely related field, along with professional or teaching experience. Strong communication skills and a commitment to effective, student-centered teaching are essential.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Instructs students enrolled in the Forensic Science Program, Forensic Investigation Emphasis.
- Administers any required Student Learning Outcome (SLO) examinations at the beginning and end of each semester
- Plans, prepares, and teaches an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught.
- Prepares instructional materials (course outlines, syllabi, exams, mock-ups, visual aids, and instruction sheets) as necessary.
- Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms and laboratories using appropriate teaching methods.
- Evaluates instruction and learning by means of appropriate testing methods.
- Maintains a student-oriented approach to education.
- Maintains and submits accurate, up-to-date reports and records related to student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up.
- Assists counselors, the Department Chairperson, faculty, and department staff in maintaining an effective program.
- Improves professionally and maintains currency in the courses taught by: Reading and utilizing materials found in trade, technical, and professional publications; Surveying and researching industrial and business establishments; Obtaining and maintaining certification and degrees as required; Attending professional and specialty courses; Keeping abreast of new development trends, and techniques.
- Is thoroughly familiar with the academic freedom and professional responsibility statement and adheres to these policies.
- Maintains desirable and safe classroom conditions.
- Maintains knowledge of current UVU technology (i.e. Canvas) via continuous training offered through the Office of Teaching and Learning.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in forensic science or a closely related area and one year of teaching or closely related professional experience in the field of forensics.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in forensic science or a closely related area and two years of teaching or closely related professional experience in the field of forensics.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Extensive knowledge and practical experience of the appropriate field of study, subject matter, and course content of classes to be taught
- Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques for teaching subject matter.
- Knowledge of student management, motivation, and evaluation.
- Knowledge of evaluation of instruction, curriculum development, program development, and evaluation.
- Skill in public speaking and report writing.
- Skill in using current technology.
- Effective human relations skills and communication techniques.
- Ability to apply general principles effectively to specific conditions.
- Ability to follow written and oral procedures and instructions.
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and administrators from a wide range of backgrounds
