Job description

As a trusted national architecture/engineering/construction consulting firm, Marx Okubo works with real estate owners, investors, and lenders—at every point of the property lifecycle—to evaluate their building projects, solve complex challenges and implement tailored solutions. We value technical proficiency, innovation, dedication, and achievement as well as collaboration, both within our organization and in our client interactions. Our work covers most commercial building types, including multi-family, office, retail, industrial, mixed use, and hotel/hospitality.

We are currently accepting applications for an Mechanical Engineer at an Associate level to join our team in Denver or in SoCal (Huntington Beach or Pasadena). Our expected starting annual salary range is $100,000 -$120,000, plus discretionary bonuses. This role is on a hybrid schedule with 2 days in the office each week, local and regional travel to sites as needed, and work from home.

Essential Functions

Leverage your passion for and knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and engineering to:

  • Conduct property condition assessments (PCAs) 
  • Provide estimations of probable costs to repair or replace systems
  • Peer review building designs 
  • Perform energy audits, system commissioning, forensic evaluations, construction management and design and evaluations of HVAC, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems  
  • Interact with site personnel and clients, communicate clearly
  • Engage in a diverse array of projects offering unique challenges and opportunities to make a tangible impact
  • Travel to project sites is required

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience   

  • Ideal candidates will possess a BSME or BSAE w/mechanical specialty, PE, and at least 10 years' experience in the engineering design and evaluation of large scale building mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems 
  • HVAC and plumbing system expertise is required, along with a fundamental knowledge of electrical and fire protection systems
  • Working knowledge of national and state building codes and experience in facilities engineering, energy audits, commissioning and sustainability consulting
  • Ability to integrate your interest in Sustainability with practical legal requirements to provide expert solutions to our clients
  • LEED or CEM certificates are a plus
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management successes
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner, remain organized, and multitask
  • Decision-making and problem-solving experience in a technical role
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, PlanGrid and Box

  • Candidates should have the ability to:
  • Operate a computer (keyboarding) and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copier/scanner/printer
  • Use visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens 
  • Move through construction and existing building sites over rough terrain
  • See and respond to dangerous situations
  • Respond quickly to sounds
  • Ascend and descend ladders and stairs
  • Move safely through confined spaces and narrow paths
  • Work in outdoor weather conditions or unconditioned areas
  • Travel approximately 25-50% of the time both in and out of state
