Travel RN – Behavioral Health / Forensic Unit

Valley Springs Behavioral Health Hospital | Massachusetts

Assignment Details
  • Specialty: Behavioral Health RN – Forensic Unit
  • Unit: Mountain View
  • Shift: 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours/week
  • Weekends: Every other weekend
  • Call: None
  • Float: None
  • Openings: 1
  • Orientation: Bi-weekly on Tuesdays
  • Local Accepted
  • MA RN License: Must be active at time of submission
Experience & Requirements
  • 3 years of Behavioral Health RN experience required
  • Must have experience working with mental health patients in a locked setting
  • Must be comfortable administering medications using Omnicell
  • BLS – AHA required
  • Handle with Care (HWC) required; can be completed onsite if needed
  • BSN preferred
Unit Details
  • 46-bed forensic behavioral health unit
  • Adult population, 18+
  • Typical RN ratio: 1:9
  • EMR: Cerner
  • Point-of-care blood glucose and vital-sign monitoring
  • Modern, approximately 3-year-old behavioral health facility
  • Experienced interdisciplinary team
  • Internal medical group available for medical concerns
  • Dedicated rehabilitation staff for group programming
  • Social Work support
  • 3 unit psychiatrists
  • Facility reports one of the lowest restraint rates in Massachusetts
Patient Population

Patients commonly have a history of legal involvement and may be preparing for eventual community placement.

Common diagnoses include:

  • Bipolar disorder
  • Schizoaffective disorder
  • Major depressive disorder
  • Substance use disorders
  • Diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • COPD
  • Other chronic medical conditions
Ideal Candidate

The unit is seeking a confident, compassionate, trauma-informed Behavioral Health RN who communicates well, remains flexible, and can adapt quickly to changing patient needs in a secure forensic environment.
