Job Description Summary
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
Shawnee State University Student Affairs is the division of Shawnee State University dedicated to supporting students beyond the classroom. It promotes student success by providing resources, programs, and services that foster personal, academic, and professional development. Its mission is to provide students with a pathway for personal and professional success through a holistic college experience in a welcoming and student-focused environment.
POSITION SUMMARY, ROUTINE TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Part-Time Student Employee in the Student Affairs Department provides administrative, customer service, and operational support while contributing to a welcoming and engaging campus environment. Student employees serve as ambassadors for Student Affairs by assisting students, faculty, staff, and visitors with professionalism and courtesy. This position offers valuable hands-on experience in office administration, communication, event support, and student services.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide front desk coverage by greeting students, visitors, and campus partners, and providing general information.
  • Perform general administrative duties, including filing, sorting, scanning, copying, data entry, and preparing documents.
  • Organize and maintain departmental files, records, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Type correspondence and create or update office documents using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other office software.
  • Operate office equipment, including computers, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other standard office technology.
  • Unpack materials, sort and distribute departmental mail, and run campus errands as needed.
  • Maintain departmental bulletin boards by ensuring information is organized, accurate, and up to date.
  • Assist with planning, setup, execution, and cleanup of Student Affairs programs, activities, and special events.
  • Support special projects and departmental initiatives as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and departmental information in accordance with university policies.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Student Affairs personnel.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Registered full-time SSU student
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and follow instructions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media platforms
  • Follow SSU dress code policy
