Job description

Description
Position Overview
Hargrave Military Academy is undertaking a historic expansion of its athletic programs, adding or expanding fencing, football, swimming, lacrosse, soccer, and baseball alongside its flagship basketball program. This expansion is a cornerstone of the Academy's enrollment growth strategy and requires a dedicated professional to amplify Hargrave Athletics' visibility, reach, and brand impact.
The primary aim of this hire is to tell the story of Hargrave Athletics in a way that excites prospective families, engages recruiting channels, energizes alumni, and positions Hargrave as a premier destination for student-athletes. The ideal candidate is equal parts storyteller, content creator, and strategist, someone who can produce a highlight reel at 10 PM on a Friday night and polish a recruiting pitch deck on Monday morning.
Key Responsibilities
This is a highly independent position. You will operate with clear performance expectations and minimal daily oversight. The right candidate thrives in that environment.
Sports Marketing & Enrollment Support
Content creation and athletics storytelling are the core of this role. You will be physically present at games, matches, and practices across all sports programs, capturing the content that fuels recruiting and builds program identity. This means sidelines, pools, mats, and fields, not a desk.
  • Capture sufficient content across all sports programs, including photo and short-form video to sustain an effective posting cadence between events.
  • Organize and maintain the athletics media library as a long-term institutional asset.
  • Plan and produce testimonial and spotlight content featuring coaches, athletes, and prominent athletic alumni for cross-departmental functions.
  • Manage live coverage and streaming of significant events.
  • Generate social media across platforms that reach parents and prospective student-athletes.
  • Monitor how peer programs and competitor schools present themselves across these channels and bring relevant intelligence back to the marketing and athletics leadership team.
  • Maintain and update the athletics section of hargrave.edu, including coach spotlights, program pages, camp announcements, news stories, and recruiting landing pages.
  • Support the coaching staff with ready-to-use content packages: social assets, athlete spotlights, and program highlights that extend each coach's reach.
  • Where appropriate, develop frameworks that enable athletes themselves to generate and share authentic content that benefits both the program and their personal recruiting profiles.
  • Aid the marketing production staff in generating professional materials for prospect engagements.
  • Create sport-specific landing pages that feed qualified athletic inquiries into the admissions pipeline.
  • Track and report on athletics content performance, including engagement metrics, inquiry attribution, and audience growth.

Requirements
Qualifications
Required
  • 2+ years in athletics communications or sports marketing.
  • Experience with CMS platforms (Sidearm, WordPress, or similar).
  • Experience with digital marketing tools and graphic design software. (BOXOUT, Canva, InDesign, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written, photo, and video content under deadline pressure.
  • Video production skills, including shooting, editing, and live-streaming
  • Proficiency with social media management and audience development across major platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills, managing multiple competing requirements and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required by the athletic schedule.
Preferred
  • Familiarity with NIL considerations and how institutional content intersects with student-athlete personal branding, particularly at the post-graduate level.
  • Relationships with regional sports media, recruiting services, or athletics networks.
