Cleaning StewardPosition Summary

The Cleaning Steward is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, safe, and organized foodservice operation. This position performs routine and deep cleaning of kitchens, dish rooms, storage areas, equipment, floors, drains, and other assigned areas. The Cleaning Steward follows cleaning schedules, food safety standards, and chemical-handling procedures and may assist with dishwashing, waste removal, and other operational needs. Position is Monday - Friday 6a - 3p.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, organization, and appearance of assigned foodservice and back-of-house areas.
  • Complete daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal cleaning assignments.
  • Clean and sanitize floors, walls, ceilings, drains, shelving, storage areas, trash areas, and other surfaces.
  • Clean and sanitize foodservice equipment, including hard-to-reach areas and equipment interiors/exteriors.
  • Clean walk-ins, freezers, dry storage, mop rooms, dish rooms, and other assigned areas.
  • Sweep, scrub, and mop floors and promptly address spills, grease, food debris, and other safety hazards.
  • Remove trash and recycling and maintain clean waste-handling areas and equipment.
  • Properly use, store, and maintain cleaning tools, equipment, chemicals, and supplies.
  • Follow all chemical-handling, labeling, PPE, and Safety Data Sheet requirements.
  • Maintain required cleaning schedules, sanitation logs, and food safety documentation.
  • Monitor cleaning supplies and report maintenance, pest, safety, or sanitation concerns to a supervisor.
  • Assist with washing, sanitizing, organizing, and storing dishes, pots, pans, utensils, smallwares, and equipment as needed.
  • Ensure assigned areas are clean, sanitized, organized, and ready for operation at the end of each shift.
  • Follow all Quest policies, food safety standards, workplace safety procedures, and health department requirements.
  • Report to work on time, in complete uniform, and prepared to perform assigned duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

Required:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to perform basic math and understand measurements and conversions.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required Food Handler certification.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and cleanliness.
  • Ability to work efficiently and consistently in a busy environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

  • Previous cleaning, sanitation, or foodservice experience.
  • Experience working in a school, university, or other institutional foodservice environment.
Certification Requirement
  • Must complete the Always Food Safe Managers course and pass the proctored exam to obtain certification within 60 days of starting the position. Class time will be paid.
