Job Summary:
With strong leadership skills that reflect the company's core values, the Food Safety Coordinator is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the Food Safety program, Food Safety plan, pre-requisite programs, all food safety manuals, procedures, and staff training at the designated facility(s). The Coordinator will support the Food Safety Director with requirements in relation to audits, facility initiatives, and will operate and adhere to a department budget.
Responsibilities:
  • Co-chair of the Food Safety committee and facilitates Food Safety meetings
  • Liaise with outside vendors for support for all pre-requisite programs (pest program, janitorial services and cleaning products)
  • Communicate with Supervisors to identify and support training initiatives for employees
  • Administrator for vendor websites
  • Develop and implement the HACCP Food Safety program and support annual, second and third-party audits
  • Review the PrimusGFS external auditing program requirements annually
  • Perform regular Food Safety Inspections of the facility and ensure Good Manufacturing Practices are being followed
  • Develop, validate, and verify all operational checklists within the Food Safety plan
  • Create and maintain operational manuals
  • Maintain environmental monitoring program
  • Conduct internal program audits and mock recalls as required
  • Identify and ensure organizational training needs are met
  • Develop and lead the Sanitation team, including but not limited to; training, performance reviews and scheduling
  • Maintain a positive attitude throughout any adversity
  • Overseeing and supporting the Sanitation Lead at SFF, ensuring their duties are completed with accuracy and in a timely manner
  • Conduct FS and Sanitation training at SFF as required
  • Maintaining the work order system by validating the completion of all work orders
  • High focus on customer service and cost reduction
  • Other core expectations as defined by the company

Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in Food Science or related discipline required
  • 2-3 years experience in food safety required; food manufacturing environment preferred
  • HACCP, PCQI certification required
  • Knowledge of US/Canadian Food Safety standards and legislation, as applicable, Good Manufacturing Practices, Health and Safety, Food Safety auditing schemes
  • Computer Skills; Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work alone and in a team atmosphere
  • Ability to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail orientated, organized with the ability multi-task

Work Environment:
  • Hours of work may vary depending on business needs
  • The job may require travel between location facilities
  • This job operates in a clerical, office setting
  • Occasional work in a refrigerated warehouse, where temperatures range from 45-55ยฐF. The noise level in the work environment can be loud due to packaging machinery, and forklift truck operation
  • This job occasionally operates in a hot, high humidity environment where temperatures average 90ยฐF
  • Role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Specific vision capabilities required; employee is to work in front of a computer, sitting and/or standing for prolonged periods is required
  • Role frequently requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, use hands to handle or feel product or packaging, and reach with hands and arms
  • The position may involve needing to lift up to 30-pounds, occasionally up to 50-pounds
