Job description

  • Design and develop new process technologies, plant expansions, retrofit projects, and process improvements for industrial biorefineries.
  • Prepare process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, equipment specifications, process calculations, and complete engineering design packages.
  • Develop material and energy balances for new and existing process technologies.
  • Research and evaluate new methods to improve manufacturing efficiency, product yields, and process reliability.
  • Design industrial process systems for handling solids, liquids, and gases throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Assist in the design of process measurement, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Analyze operating data and recommend improvements that reduce operating costs, improve efficiency, and minimize waste streams.
  • Troubleshoot operating plant issues and develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Support customer commissioning activities, plant startups, and field troubleshooting to ensure successful implementation of new technologies.
  • Assist with project management activities, including tracking engineering deliverables, schedules, and project progress.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams while providing technical support throughout project execution.
  • Apply chemical engineering principles to improve process safety, environmental performance, and operational reliability.


QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3–5+ years of process engineering experience within chemical manufacturing, biofuels, ethanol, food processing, grain processing, or another continuous process manufacturing environment.
  • Experience developing PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and engineering design documentation.
  • Familiarity with process simulation software such as Aspen Plus, ChemCAD, or similar modeling platforms.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently following initial training.
  • Naturally curious, coachable, collaborative, and capable of understanding the broader business and process objectives.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 20% to support customer commissioning, startups, and field activities.
