Job Description
Summary:
The operator is responsible for the direct supervision of the assigned production lines. This position is directly responsible for worker compliance with established safety, quality, quantity and housekeeping.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for interpretation of and adherence to production work orders
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of all processes and equipment
  • Reports any process and equipment problems
  • Assists in training production assistants
  • Organizes work for smooth operations
  • Responsible for all processes, equipment, employees, safety and housekeeping on assigned lines
  • Adherence to company policies and procedures
  • Responsible for assuring order set-ups, product quality checks and equipment set-ups are done in line with specifications
  • Responsible for ensuring scrap goals on assigned lines are met
  • Assist the Maintenance Technicians during breakdowns to minimize downtimes
  • Report malfunctions or unsafe working conditions to the Sr. Operator or Supervisor
  • Understand and actively participate in the company's EHS policy, goals, and objectives
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, order forms, travelers and checklists
  • Ability to speak effectively with Managers, co-workers or before groups of co-workers, Supervisors or others within the company
  • Mandatory participation of safety programs and training
  • Attend meetings as scheduled
  • Wear mandatory assigned Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.)
  • Be a team player with a positive attitude and work well with others
  • Possess good written and verbal communications skills
  • Know and understand the importance of safety, quality, housekeeping and teamwork
  • Dependable and flexible when work is required in other facets of production
  • To ask questions to prevent errors or clarification
  • Can work with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Requires overall knowledge and experience of extruders, recycling procedures and profiles of resins and their properties
  • Must be able to work rotating 12-hour shift including holidays and weekends
  • Must be able to bend, twist, and rotate body at all times

Essential Physical Requirements:
  • The employee in this job is required to exert 50 pounds of force occasionally (less than 1/3 of time); and up to 35 pounds of force frequently (more than 1/3 of the total time); if over 50 lbs., requires a team lift or mechanical aid such as a roll lift or forklift.
  • Must be able to stand for 12 hours
  • Must be able to bend, twist, and rotate body at all times
  • Reaching with hands and arms for as much as 100% of workday
  • Talking to communicate with others
  • Hearing to communicate with others and respond to manufacturing and PIT equipment sounds
  • Using arms to grasp, handle, and type
  • Walking to operate production machines and to package and palletize finished product

Work Environment:
This position requires that the employee be able to work:
  • Outdoors - 1/3 of the time or less
  • Near moving mechanical parts - Over 2/3 of the time
  • High or precarious places - 1/3 of the time or less
  • Near electrical components - 1/3 of the time or less
  • Near vibrating equipment and tools - 1/3 of the time or less
  • Fumes from equipment or airborne particles - 1/3 of the time or less
