2. Job Brief Description

The Executive Publishing Director & Managing Editor serves as the master intellectual architect and creative director for high-stakes client manuscripts. In a business world dominated by disposable social media posts and superficial AI content, this partner leads our Global Authority Book Publishing stream, capturing the authentic voice and hard-earned insights of elite corporate leaders and translating them into commercially viable, legacy-building books.

Operating at the strategic nexus of developmental ghostwriting, rigorous structural editing, intellectual property structuring, and master-level typographic design, the Director oversees the complete journey from raw conceptual discovery to physical book distribution. This partner works directly with founders, C-suite executives, and public policy architects to deliver 100% IP ownership, turnkey print-ready assets, and instant retail availability across more than 40,000 bookstores, corporate libraries, and academic networks worldwide.

3. Required Skills & Competencies

(Sourced directly from the DADYMINDS Unit Employee Skill Set Framework)

Primary Hard & Technical Competencies
  1. Executive Ghostwriting & Developmental Editing (Skill #2): Elite ability to capture the authentic voice of C-suite leaders and founders, organizing raw strategic insight into structured, compelling long-form narratives and business playbooks.

  2. Advanced Pre-Press Typography & Editorial Design (Skill #3): Production-grade typesetting and layout design in Adobe InDesign CC, including master page grid architecture, font hierarchy, kerning, micro-typography, and pre-flight print separation.

  3. Global Distribution Metadata Engineering & POD API Operations (Skill #6): Precision management of ONIX data feeds, BISAC/Thema subject categorization, keyword algorithms, and print-on-demand fulfillment pipelines.

  4. Intellectual Property Structuring & Copyright Licensing (Skill #8): Securing sovereign author-retention contracts, international trademark alignments, Library of Congress filings, and territorial rights syndication while ensuring clients retain 100% IP ownership.

  5. Enterprise Workflow & Automation Architecture (Skill #9): Orchestrating multi-stage manuscript editorial workflows, version-controlled review cycles, and client sign-offs using Zoho Creator, Zoho Docs, and project pipelines.

Secondary Strategic & Operational Competencies
  1. Diagnostic Client Elicitation & Elite Interviewing (Skill #1): Conducting high-yield, empathetic diagnostic interview sessions with time-constrained executives to draw out proprietary frameworks without causing client fatigue.

  2. Multi-Stakeholder Editorial Project Management (Skill #2): Managing multi-month book publication cycles, coordinating proofreaders, illustrators, legal teams, and executive stakeholders without scope creep.

  3. Strategic Thought-Leadership Positioning (Skill #3): Analyzing market saturation and competitive business literature to carve out uncontested intellectual territory and category authority for the author.

  4. Print Production Sourcing & Material Specifications (Skill #8): Detailed specification of paper weights (GSM), binding types (case laminate, jacketed hardcover, foil stamping, edge guilding, and specialty paper stocks) for bespoke executive editions.

  5. Content Atomization & Derivative Asset Packaging (Skill #6): Breaking down a 250+ page monograph into executive briefs, keynote frameworks, LinkedIn series, and internal corporate training modules.

4. Core Responsibilities & Deliverables
  • Manuscript Architecture & Ghostwriting: Conduct elite interview series and developmental structural editing to draft, write, and refine executive monographs, business playbooks, and organizational memoirs.

  • Turnkey Editorial Curation: Direct the end-to-end editorial pipeline—including developmental passes, line editing, copyediting, index generation, and pre-flight proofreading.

  • Pre-Press Design & Aesthetic Direction: Oversee cover art direction and master interior grid typography using Adobe InDesign CC, meeting exact offset and IngramSpark print standards.

  • Global Rights, ISBN & Catalog Registration: Manage global ISBN pool allocation, barcode generation, Library of Congress Control Number (LCCN) assignments, and copyright registrations.

  • IP Transfer & Production Package: Deliver complete, sovereign intellectual property transfer to the client alongside validated master print files, ePub assets, and audiobook-ready scripts.

  • Stream Leadership: Serve as lead consulting partner for the Global Authority Book Publishing stream, mentoring internal editors, typesetters, and editorial project managers.

Requirements 5. Candidate Requirements
A. Education & Academic Pedigree
  • Master’s Degree (Required), MFA or Ph.D. Preferred in English Literature, Creative Writing, Journalism, Publishing, Communications, or related Humanities/Business discipline.

  • Proven portfolio of commercially published non-fiction books, business monographs, or executive thought-leadership publications.

B. Professional Experience
  • 5+ years of senior editorial leadership experience within premium trade publishing houses, executive ghostwriting agencies, or elite management consulting publication wings.

  • Track record of successfully managing complete book production lifecycles—from concept elicitation to global print distribution.

  • Demonstrable experience collaborating directly with Fortune 500 executives, successful entrepreneurs, institutional chairs, and public figures.

C. Tech Stack & Infrastructure Mastery
  • Typesetting & Design Suites: Advanced mastery of Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign CC, Illustrator CC, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro DC Preflight).

  • Global Distribution Platforms: Advanced operational knowledge of IngramSpark Enterprise, Amazon KDP, Bowker Identifier Services, and CoreSource.

  • Workflow Automation & Collaboration: Zoho One Suite (Zoho Creator, Zoho Docs, Zoho Projects) or equivalent enterprise editorial management software.

  • Executive Presence & Command: Ability to challenge executive assumptions constructively, guide narrative pacing with authority, and earn the trust of industry titans.

  • Absolute Discretion: Unflinching integrity and adherence to strict non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) and IP security.
