Reports To: Upholstery Supervisor

Job Description: The foam cutter is responsible for accurately cutting foam materials for boat seats and cushions, ensuring precise measurements and shapes.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accurately measure and mark out foam using patterns and markers.
  • Glue sheets of foam together using adhesive to create dual-density foam. 
  • Skillfully utilize band saws to precisely cut foam, employing hand saws to create beveled edges.
  • Monitor the cutting process to ensure precise and uniform cuts, making adjustments as needed.
  • Sort and organize cut foam pieces based on size, shape, and product specifications.
  • Efficiently wrap foam kits with plastic for delivery.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of all parts to ensure completeness and adherence to quality standards.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the cutting area, including the removal of waste materials and debris.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, maintenance needs, or quality issues, and repair damaged parts when necessary. 
  • Adhere to instructions provided by Manager/Supervisor/Lead.
  • Maintain strict compliance with all OSHA and safety procedures.

Tools Used in This Occupation but Are Not Limited to: 

  • Personal Protective Equipment: Safety Glasses, half-mask respirator when spraying glue.
  • Hand Tools: Foam cutter, band saws, scissors, razor knife.

Skills and Abilities for Success in this Position:

  • Keen attention to detail for precise and accurate cutting.
  • Proficiency in using and maintaining hand tools such as foam knives, razor knives, etc.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination for precise and efficient work.
  • Ability to interpret work orders and production schedules accurately.
  • Ability to assist in the unloading of supply trucks.
  • Ability to identify different boat model parts accurately.
  • Proficient reading comprehension for understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
  • Effective communication skills, including active listening, to convey information and ideas clearly, understand points being made, and ask appropriate questions.
  • Task-oriented mindset to perform efficiently under time pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and a proactive mindset in identifying, addressing, and mitigating quality issues promptly.
  • Cost-benefit analysis skills to consider relative costs and benefits and make appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perceive small details at close range.
  • Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment with varying ambient air temperatures.
  • Flexibility to bend at the waist and knees and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Capability to climb into and out of the interior of boats.
  • Willingness to wear proper safety equipment, including a respirator when necessary.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds when required.
