Fly In Fly Out Welding information

What is a Fly In Fly Out Welding job?

A Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) welding job involves traveling to remote job sites, typically in mining, oil and gas, or construction industries, for scheduled work periods before returning home during off-shifts. Welders in these roles perform tasks such as pipeline welding, structural welding, and equipment repairs. FIFO positions often include accommodations, meals, and transportation provided by the employer. These jobs can offer high wages but require long work hours and extended time away from home.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Fly In Fly Out Welding position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fly In Fly Out Welder, you need advanced welding skills, attention to detail, physical stamina, and often a relevant trade certification or apprenticeship. Familiarity with various welding processes (such as MIG, TIG, or Stick), industry safety standards, and certifications like CWB or AWS are typically required. Adaptability, excellent communication, and the ability to work well in remote teams are valuable soft skills. These qualifications are crucial since the role involves working in isolated locations on demanding projects, often with tight schedules and diverse teams.

What are the typical work rotations and living conditions for Fly In Fly Out Welding roles?

Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) Welders usually work on a rotating schedule, such as two weeks on and one week off, depending on the project and employer. During on-site shifts, accommodations like camps or lodges are provided, offering meals and basic amenities to support the workforce in remote locations. You can expect long working days, often 10-12 hours, which are offset by extended periods off for rest and travel home. Working as part of a FIFO team fosters strong camaraderie but also requires you to adapt quickly to new teams and environments. Understanding these unique work and living arrangements helps ensure you're prepared for both the opportunities and challenges the role presents.

Job description

Radiation OncologistCyberKnife Specialist | South Denver Metro

Confidential Search by StaffMed Health Partners

The Headline

One of the busiest CyberKnife centers in the United States is opening a new location in the south Denver metro and hiring the radiation oncologist who will anchor it.

This practice has treated over 1,000 prostate cancer patients to date. Patients fly in from Texas, Wisconsin, New Mexico, and Nebraska to be treated here. It is widely recognized as a national leader in CyberKnife radiosurgery and is the only full time CyberKnife practice in its region.

This role does not come along often. It will not stay open long.

Why This Opportunity Is Different

Most radiation oncology positions hand you a chair, a schedule, and a quota. This one hands you a platform.

The hiring practice is the largest ancillary revenue driver inside a nationally recognized, physician owned multispecialty group, operating under a national MSO platform backed by one of the largest healthcare companies in the country.

Translation: you walk into a practice with national scale, equity aligned governance, a referral engine built over two decades, growth capital deployed at the platform level, and full clinical autonomy preserved at the physician level.

You will not be reporting up through a hospital system. You will be building the future of radiation oncology at a center that helped define CyberKnife in the West.

What You Will Do

Deliver advanced radiation oncology care with a primary focus on CyberKnife SBRT and SRS.

Treat a robust pipeline of prostate, kidney, lung, and brain cases, with active expansion into additional disease states already underway.

Partner closely with a high volume urology referral base, the largest internal driver of new starts, alongside a growing external referral network recently expanded through a major regional payer contract.

Collaborate with onsite physicists, dosimetrists, and a radiation therapy team that has executed at the highest level in the country.

Shape clinical protocols, growth strategy, and the long term identity of a brand new center from day one.

Outpatient practice. No call. Ever.

Compensation
ComponentValueBase Salary$525,000 to $600,000Production Bonus$150,000 to $200,000 annuallyNew Start Accelerator$2,000 per new start above 280 per yearPaid Time Off5 to 6 weeks, negotiableCME5 days plus allowanceCallNone

Total cash compensation potential: $675,000 to $800,000 plus, with no ceiling on the new start accelerator.

Full benefits package, malpractice, retirement, and relocation discussed in interview.

Who We Are Looking For

You are a radiation oncologist who has lived inside the CyberKnife system. You can plan a prostate SBRT case in your sleep. You think in fractions and isodose lines. You have treated SRS cases that other centers would not touch.

You are looking for a place where your CyberKnife expertise is the asset, not the afterthought.

You want to plant roots in a city where the mountains are the backyard, the schools are nationally ranked, and your family will build a life worth staying for.

You believe the future of radiation oncology belongs to physician led, technology forward practices. You want equity, autonomy, and a seat at the table.

If your practice today is predominantly IMRT with limited SBRT, SRS, or CyberKnife experience, this role is not the right fit. We will be transparent about that on the front end so we do not waste your time or ours.

Education and Training Requirements

Required

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution
  • Completion of ACGME accredited Radiation Oncology residency
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Oncology
  • Active and unrestricted Colorado medical license, or eligibility to obtain
  • Current DEA registration
  • BLS certification

Strongly Preferred

  • Fellowship training in SBRT, SRS, CyberKnife, or related stereotactic radiosurgery subspecialty
  • Documented CyberKnife procedural training and case volume
  • Active membership in ASTRO

The Location

South Denver metro. Premier suburban setting with quick access to Denver Tech Center, downtown Denver, and Denver International Airport.

300 plus days of sunshine annually. World class skiing within 90 minutes at Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, and Keystone. National parks, fly fishing, mountain biking, and trail running in every direction. A thriving food and culture scene in Denver, Boulder, and Cherry Creek. Top rated public schools and one of the strongest housing markets in the Mountain West.

This is the place radiation oncologists move to and never leave.

Start Date

Targeting a 2026 start to coincide with the opening of the new center.
