Fly In And Fly Out information

What is a fly in and fly out job?

Fly In and Fly Out (FIFO) jobs are roles where employees travel to remote work sites, such as mines or oil rigs, for a set period before flying back home for time off. This work arrangement is common in industries located far from populated areas, where daily commuting is impractical. FIFO allows companies to access skilled labor while enabling workers to maintain their home life in other locations. Typical schedules involve working for several weeks on-site followed by a similar period off.

What are common challenges faced by fly in and fly out workers, and how can they be managed?

FIFO workers often encounter challenges such as adjusting to extended periods away from home, maintaining work-life balance, and managing fatigue due to shift work. Many companies support their FIFO staff by providing mental health resources, comfortable accommodation, and structured rosters to allow for adequate rest. Building strong communication routines with family and staying engaged in onsite social activities can also help workers stay connected and maintain their well-being while on rotation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fly in and fly out worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fly-In Fly-Out (FIFO) worker, you generally need relevant trade or industry qualifications, strong physical fitness, and experience in remote or industrial environments. Familiarity with site-specific safety protocols, machinery, and compliance certifications such as White Card or mining inductions are typically required. Resilience, adaptability, and strong teamwork and communication skills are essential soft skills for managing the unique challenges of remote work. These skills and qualities are crucial for maintaining high performance, safety, and well-being in demanding and isolated FIFO environments.

Job description

Join Our Growing Cardiac Program

A leading healthcare employer in North Central Montana seeks a Board-Eligible or Board-Certified General Cardiologist to join an experienced and growing cardiac program at their Butte office location.

This is a ground-floor opportunity to help build out a cardiology presence in a community with demonstrated need and an established patient base already in place.

The position is outpatient-focused with no call, full-time and part-time options available, and quick access to supporting specialists and emergent care through an on-site acute care hospital with a busy ED and open ICU.

Compensation is competitive ($550K-$650K for FT) and productivity-based (wRVU model), with a sign-on bonus, relocation assistance, annual performance bonus opportunity, 401(k) with employer match, generous PTO and CME allowance, paid licensure and dues, and malpractice with tail coverage.

Butte, Montana offers physicians a rare and rewarding alternative to the pace and pressure of larger markets โ€” a place where you can make a genuine impact on the community you live in and practice. Situated in the heart of the Rocky Mountains at over 5,700 feet, Butte combines a rich cultural identity with an unmatched outdoor lifestyle โ€” world-class fly fishing, skiing, hiking, and hunting are practically out your back door, with both Glacier National Park and Yellowstone within reach for a long weekend. The cost of living is well below the national average, housing is affordable, and the average commute is measured in minutes rather than hours.

J1 visa sponsorship is available.
