American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) - Pulmonology position at a Level 3 Trauma facility in North Carolina, requiring a minimum of 2 years of PCU experience and strong pulmonary/cardiac skill proficiency.
Job Details
• Work in a 28-bed Pulmonology PCU at a 457-bed Level 3 Trauma hospital that is also a Stroke Center of Excellence, Bariatric Center of Excellence, and Chest Pain Center,
• Common patient diagnoses include acute respiratory failure, COPD, CHF, PE, NSTEMI, CVA, sepsis, GI bleed, AFib/flutter, and ETOH abuse,
• Patient ratios are 1:4 (Progressive) and 1:5 (Medical),
• Specialized skills required include BiPAP, Optiflow/high-flow oxygen, trach care, chest tube management, Pleurx drains, wound vac care, ostomy care, home vent care, post-pacemaker care, TR band post-heart cath, PIV starts, and blood draws,
• Medication drip management required for Heparin, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Labetalol, Lidocaine, Milrinone, Nesiritide, Cardene, Nitroglycerin, and Phenobarbital (IVP, titration, or IVPB),
• EMR is Epic; experience preferred,
• IV pumps are Alaris; medication dispensing via Omnicell; monitoring via Philips hardwire and remote telemetry boxes,
• Unit equipment includes Lifepak, bladder scanners, EKG machines, portable monitors, hoyer lifts, and dopplers,
• 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week,
• Every other weekend rotation required,
• Floating may be required within Region 1, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division facilities (CMC Main, Mercy, LCH), and any freestanding EDs within the region,
• No on-call requirements,
Job Requirements
• Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand,
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required,
• Minimum 2 years of PCU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year,
• Proficiency with pulmonary and cardiac skills including BiPAP, high-flow oxygen therapy, drip titration, and telemetry monitoring,
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration,
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN,
• Must have been separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year following permanent employment before being eligible,

• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted,
• Unit culture emphasizes quality patient care through communication and teamwork,
• CNA support available for vital signs, blood sugars, ADLs, foley placement, and lab draws; HUC/Receptionist available Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-3:00 PM; free charge nurse typically available,
• Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 (2 on days, 1 on nights) and remains on the unit; Hospitalist and Intensivist coverage available 24/7,
• Telemetry monitoring/tech support is available on the unit,
• Orientation includes hospital-wide NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation,
• Travelers are expected to work assigned holidays,
• Scrub color is navy blue,
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply, provided they have at least 2 years of PCU experience,
